Right, you have referred to me so I will reply.

The only way to get this password is to ask the person who owns the router and connection. THERE IS NO OTHER LEGAL WAY.

You were given tips on how you may be able to find this person.

Other than this you have no choice.

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve by posting here but people are not going to tell you how to get the password illegally.Try to find the guy or stop going on about it, it is fact, these are your only options until you can get your own account. I am not moaning or being sarcastic, I have even said I will stop replying unless a post is directed at me, that's hardly looking for an argument.

    To summarise once again:

Try to find the guy measuring the signal strength is the only LEGAL option you have other than call around to houses near yours and ask people. No matter how many times you post here, this will not change.

This gives you the following choices: Try to find whoever owns the connection (as stated many times), wait for broadband, have no broadband.

    to quote myself again

Now, that was clearly posted to incite me. As I have said twice, I am only replying if my posts are referred to. You seem to have the same issue grasping this as you have with your broadband situation. Believe it or not I have better things to do than post the same thing over and over on this board. If you do not want me to reply, do not incite me to do so. It's really very simple.

Oh... I feel Boards sharks are sharpening their teeth and are preparing to rip the pray apart any second.

    1. Get your own broadband(wireless) if you can.

    2. Find the guy who has that broadband and make them an offer........ and if they refuse, call Luca Brazi. ;)

If you can not, then get yourself an Orinoco or Senao card, install airsnort and get on to decrypting, but it'll take a LONG time.
He says he already has the key, he found them on google. Aside from that you really should not be advising people on what they need to break WEP. The chances are those routers belong to someone on a capped product, if asswipe here sharts downloading the new series of lost and all the Paris Hilton videos he could land some other guy with a bill.

He has said that he would be will to pay half but only seems interested in getting the key. If he was interested in going abouy it the correct way he would make an effort to find one of the owners.

Paulm, just a quick question. Do you know if it is illegal to leech BB from an unsecured wireless set-up ? Or is it only illegal if you use some sort of hacking/cracking to get past network security. Just curious about the legalities.
On blahblah's original question , I would suggest that if the network is password protected, leave it alone. Even if you could track down the owner of the connection, and were willing to pay half the cost, he would be crazy to allow someone share his BB because, as owner of the IP address, he would be liable for anything illegal you got up to on the net, porn, music uploading, etc. Not suggesting you would do this, but I'm sure you see my point.
Anyway, if your estate if not wired, then the signal must be coming from a fair distance away from you, so would be next to useless for online gaming.

TBH, I don't know. I would assume so. I was going by the logic that if they have no security it is their own fault. You could probably say you thought it was a free service like Eircon used to do.

If something has a password it is a clear indication it is not for public use.

Just on the theory of it , if someone left their car door unlocked would it be ok to jump in and take it for a spin into town to do your shopping . Just cause someone is stupid enough not to password protect it doesn't mean it's ok for someone else to take it .In this case leech is a nice word for steal .

Where do you live ? I need some turf for my lawn and if yours isn't locked down I assume I can come and dig it up....if you have any planters out front I'll take them as well (if I've room).

Hi lads. moved into a new estate and my wireless card picked up 3 signals from eircom but they are passworded. is there some sort of standard password?

    Sure. Username is "ima"
    Password is "cheapleachingthief"

If it doesn't work the first time, try it left handed.

I think you mis-understood what paulm was getting at. Wireless BB is going to be leeched if someone makes it openly available. No, its not right, but there are people who will do it. To use your analogy, if you knew there was a sneaky little thief with a fetish for garden planters running around your area, then you would'nt leave your planters out without at least securing them in some way, would you ?

Fair enough but that still doesn't make it right for them to steal them does it?? Majority of people here are pointing out that what yer man wants is not right to do and that they have the moral decency not to do it - certainly wouldn't want him for a neighbour....

No, does not give them the right to steal it. As you say yourself, the majority here believe its not right, but there are a lot of blahblah's out there, so why make it easy for them ? I would advise anyone using wireless to not only use wep, but to restrict access by mac address as well.

I live in an apartment. If I owned a turf field or had turf lying around, I would atleast make sure there was a locked gate. As I said, I assume it is illegal to take it I just don't know.

My point is that if something isn't secure there is a risk. I can get 5 unlocked wireless signals in my apartment. I pay for my BB and have just bought a wireless router. I will ensure it is locked down. I would not steal someones bandwith as I assume it is illegal, if people are stupid enough not to lock it, it will be taken much like bikes, cars, stereos and in your case, turf. :)

Cheers Duiske_Lad, that is exactly what I meant.

I take your point - it should be secured. But coming on here and asking how he can break into his neighbours wireless??? And certain people advising him how to do it?? Thankfully most are against this - he can make all the pretence he wants by saying "I will pay for half...blahblah" (very appropriate handle) but in reality he wants to steal it and find out how to do that - only one word springs to mind here - scumbag.

Indeed. However I might not know that such a thing as a sneaky little thief with a fetish for planters existed until the day the Guard turned up and said - we caught this guy using your planter to throw through a windscreen of a Brinks van.

Not every user is tech-savvy. Eircom seem to be dishing out the wireless jobbies like winegums at a kiddies party. Just because someone doesn't secure their router doesn't make it right to use it.

Use netstubler with a gps reciever and u'll find it in no time by taking three locations in the area and triangulate the signal!

Point taken. A simple manual supplied with wireless routers giving security set-up instructions, and a warning about the implications of not setting up security on the network would be really useful. Especially now that the music rights crowd are in the process of bringing Irish people to court for up/downloading music via the net. Its not the up/downloader that takes the heat, its the person in who's name the BB connection is registered.

Agreed 100%. But unfortunatly the fact that this thread is even here goes to show that some people could'nt give a rats @r$£; about what's right or wrong.

We are not talking about unsecured APs here. This guy is detecting secured APs. Leeching off an unsecured AP is bad IMO but it comes down to human nature, for some people it is OK to get something at the expense of others. I think it was a bit irresponsible for €ircon to give free wireless routers away unless they provided adequate instructions or support in order to help the punters to make them secure.

I understand that at the end of the day it is down to the user to make their installation secure but we are talking about people that have potentially no technical knowledge.

To get back to the original [strike]scumbag[/strike] poster, to is activly trying to break the security on a router that someone has actually made an effort to secure. There is no excuse here. This is not a case of accidentally connecting. Had the person owning this router wanted to share it with free loading assholes they would not have secured it.

Yes because everybody is a thieving leech like you.

You've been told a dozen times that it has to be a house close to you so you should start knocking on doors but you've made it clear that you'd rather steal bandwidth than bother trying to find out.
