I think he stated a preference for chelsea last year, i read somewhere a figure of 5 million. I also heard that the Glazers were trying to use the american ties (whatever good that is) to try to convince him united was the place to be....Wait n see i guess..

how much would this deal cost? will it be just a compensation payment?
A figure of 5m was mentioned in some of the tabloids this morning.

I thought young American players were not allowed to move clubs until they were 18. These are the rules of the MLS. I also saw an interview with Freddy Adu where he stated this himself.

Yeah there is some rule like that, otherwise he would have been snapped up by now. Sure there has been talk about him for years now with clubs over scouting him

in the link above the agent/coach says we are aware of the fact that he turns 17 this summer. could it be that the age to move is 17? anybody see him play for an extended period? i have only seen clips.

The age required is 17 afaik.
There is nothing in this story whatsoever, and the agent came out and said nothing had been resolved.

United have been trying to get him to sign for some time, but then there were allegations about what age he really was, and he hasn't been developing at the rate that people think he should be or something. That said, I think United are still after him, but once he comes on the market, he is much sought after by many clubs, and I think he said he would like to play for Chelsea last year, but also said he'd like to play for Utd. He didn't stated a preference I think, just that he'd like to play for a bigc lub

Cant believe the figure is so high. I saw him play last year for dc against New england revolution at foxboro stadium. He came on as a second half sub and he didnt too much in the game. He got pushed off the ball way too easily. But then again hes only 16 and in time when he bulks up he may be an a very good player. Even with the theo walcott transfer i find it hard to believe as DC United are prob just better than shels and cork city from what i saw at that game. He is hyped up to much.

i watched him play in america during the summer.
hes good and all and has a good head for the game but he isnt all that special. i mean u wont get a ronaldinho out of him like some americans seem to think.
plus the quality of MLS is a bit crappy so he shines out alot more then he really does.
not saying hes a bad player.... just not the hyped up star the US press are making him out to be

At last some sense. He is way overhyped in the states.I remember when i was in barnes & noble in the states and he was all over the US soccer mags.Lanon donavon before him is a superstar in the states but failed in germany when he had the chance. Then again I would throw caution to the wind as he could be a hit like the PSV striker beasley.

The level of the MLS is just a bit higher than the EL.

You would be suprised. At their best the likes of shels and cork and to a lesser extent derry and drogheda could hold their own.

You would be suprised at the standard. Its prob championhip league at best. The best american players head to europe. On another note one of the new england star players michael parkhurst can play for Ireland if he chooses too. One of his parents or maybe both are irish. He was named in the team of the year and player of the year too.

Another of their first team players avery john played for bohs and longford.
