Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You'll need the Update 1 install CD.
    The original doesn't support SATA.

If you can't get the update, installation might be more complicated.
You might be able to install to another disk - IDE, SCSI or USB,
and then boot the machine from something that can see
SATA like Knoppix or ubuntu Live.
You should then be able to lay out your disk and copy the install over. Copy the contents of /lib/modules from the Ubuntu/Knoppix live disk onto the target partition's /lib/modules, and then reboot from the live CD giving your SATA root partition as root= on the command line.

This should get you booted into the system and allow
you to update it. Applying just the latest kernel update
should give you access to the disk.

Hope that gives you a few ideas.
    Good luck,
    Niall

is there any way i can force red hat to see my drive?
The drive shows up in Bios as an extended drive not as primary or slave drive.

    Yes.
You'll need the Update 1 install CD.
    The original doesn't support SATA.

You can't force your copy of redhat to see your drive.
SATA doesn't have primary and slave concepts.

Have you booted a copy of Knoppix on the system yet?
Does it detect your drive OK?

Does it have to be Redhat Advanced Server?
Something more modern will have no problems.

Unfortunately it has to be RedHat Enterprise 4 workstation.

So if i install to an ide disk i can copy the installation to the sata drive if i boot up under Knopix (which i tested and can see the drive).

how do i set the Sata drive root partition as root?
