Silly. In real life you wouldn't act like this. I see no reason to do it now. It makes me a little sad for you tbh (not taking the piss.)

Anyway. We're going way off topic here.

Mods communicating better with people they ban (or warn) is a reasonable thing. It should at least be considered, and not quickly dismissed.

I think you are taking the piss. You say you answer specific questions and then you don't. So when you make statements you either don't mean them or you cannot handle basic logic.

    Actually we're bang on topic.

I considered it. I've considered it over the 4 or 5 years I've been a moderator. I have the experience to be able to dismiss it. You do not. This is not arrogance, this is plain simple fact.

ok, well, i think we've seen all through this thread that you have not one iota or shred of evidence against any moderators for abuse of power.

this is simply noise from you again.

Yeah, let's see this abuse of power.

Amp & WWM: I've been using the Internet since 1992. I practically invented trolling (although I gave it up a few years ago.) I know you think it's hilarious because you think you're winding me up or being so clever, but in reality it's instantly see-thru what you're doing. I'm sitting here with my French girlfriend and my Russian friends, we're drinking wine, and just wondering, "WTF?".

It's not clever, funny, or insulting. It's just nerdy and naive.

If you have nothing positive to add to this topic, please go away. I'm trying to give feedback, not amuse a couple of lonely males.

And you keep avoiding giving specific answers to specific questions. But kudos on your international playboy lifestyle. I'm not sure how that's relevent to this discussion but I SURE R IMPRESSED!

But a minute ago you were accusing us of insulting you. And it's you that are naive pal. Even if you've been on the internet since 92, which I very much doubt you can prove, you are completely ignorant of how boards.ie works.

    1. Establish that I am more experienced than other users despite reg date
    2. Make outlandish claims like "I invented trolling" and "The earth is flat"
    3. Establish that despite appearances, I am in a utopia of calm
    4. Mention that I'm am casually sitting here with friends drinking wine
    5. Mention Girlfriend and the fact that I have foreign friends for I have seen the world
    6. Mention we are not in fact, troubled by what you post, but that we are taking turns to casually read this thread while playing chess and watching some Stephen Fry anecdotes. We would not linger on such banalites.

You were 13 in 1992, I'd be fascinated to know how you had net access given the internet was not generally available in Ireland outside of large america corporations and UCD.

    You are a liar.

So basically this thread about the banning habits of mods and the lack of professionalism by the mods actually boils down to the fact that the OP's wide and varied experience of Asian Male manhoods based on their extensive research of Asian Porn and willingness to share this experience was deemed off topic got them banned.

Bloody hell you stooped to Yore Ma already.

Dublindude you were out of order you were warned and you failed to comply and were banned.
The behaviour of a poster is taken in to consideration when instating a ban limit and if it is to be lifted at all.
You are not helping your case at all.
I suggest you shut up, grow up, stop whining and do your ban like a grown up and learn something from it.

    You are a liar.

I was 14. My father is a lecturer in Trinity. I used to play MUDS in the labs. I helped run a MUD called Endless Nameless.

Just so you know, I moved to Ireland when aged 9. I'm originally from Omsk in Russia (Sibera: a ****ing **** place to grow up.) This is why I am bad at explaing my thoughts (I'm not a natural English speaker.)

With computers and numbers though, I'm great.

Well now we're getting somewhere. I actually believe you. I've been on the internet for about the same time.

However, like I said, you're time on the internet is irrelevant. I would not dare to tell you how to behave when you play/run muds, as I have very little experience playing/running them. I would not behave in an arrogant way towards your superior experience as you have done here. And if I did I would expect to get an angry response.

Amp, I am sorry if I come across as arrogant (I am a little arrogant, I know this, but honestly it is not something I do on purpose), but I believe I am a reasonable person and I respect other people. Yes, their opinions sometimes make me think, "what the ****", but I still respect the person behind the opinion.

I am very aware it is very very easy to misinterpret (sp?) someone on the internet.

    ...

    We're totally off-topic here.

ALL IS AM ASKING FOR IS MORE COMMUNICATION!!!

It was just feedback! I wasn't saying I am the King of the Internet and this must happen. I was just saying it would make everyones life easier (users: instantly; mods: long term, maybe) if an explanation accompanied the ban.

I'm really surprised people are taking this idea as out there, bizarre, arrogant etc.

It was just a helpful suggestion...

I've tried to explain why I don't agree with your suggestion. It won't make mods lives any easier and I really don't care if the people stupid enough to get banned have easier lives or not.

It's an amazing coincidence that these suggestions always come from people who have been stupid enough to have gotten themselves banned. The onus is on you, a user, to avoid getting banned. We post charters, provide warnings, an entire encylopedia has been written on the various aspects of boards.ie.

If, despite all this help, you still get banned then you are simply not worth helping. You are too stupid to be on boards.ie. And given that there are 100's of people signing up to boards every week and the majority of those can avoid getting banned, the ones that do break the rules are the ones boards.ie could do without. We owe the banned nothing.

Of course I know it won't make your life easier. It's extra work.

But the reason I think it is a good idea is because it's the right thing to do. I'm sorry for you if you are too lazy to give a reason for a banning, but it just seems like manners to me.

I dislike unreasonable things. I cannot help but dislike banning people without an explanation.

As I've said many times, at least it protects users from grudge bannings if an explanation must be included.

So it won't make everyone's life easier then?

Well you're wrong. I regard people who get themselves banned as having no manners in the first place. Why should I be courtious to them when they had the bad banners to get banned? That's a specific question by the way.
I dislike unreasonable things. I cannot help but dislike banning people without an explanation.

I dislike banning people. I dislike it when people ignore simple rules and I have to stop them posting on a forum.
As I've said many times, at least it protects users from grudge bannings if an explanation must be included.

What grudge bannings? Many have asked you for examples of this and you have never replied with anything. Why? Because there are no grudge bannings.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

There are grudge bannings. We both know humans have all kinds of issues/hold grudges over the smallest of things. I really believe this is amplified on the Internet.

Also, I think a lot of people get banned because their opinions/the way they express themself is not with the "tone" of boards.ie. I really think everyone should be accepted here. Someone obviously trying to be a cock should be banned. But someone with silly opinions should be tolerated.

    Not unconditionally, no.

    dublindude wrote:

I disagree. The only way to resolve this would be to provide an example.
We both know humans have all kinds of issues/hold grudges over the smallest of things. I really believe this is amplified on the Internet.

So people get banned over the smallest of things on boards? Not clearly defined offences like personal abuse? or other offences defined in charters? Do you understand that what you're saying is that moderators here are not impartial and will ban people for the slightest infraction. Most of us find that offensive, because most of us pride ourselves on our impartiality. I certainly do.
Also, I think a lot of people get banned because their opinions/the way they express themself is not with the "tone" of boards.ie. I really think everyone should be accepted here. Someone obviously trying to be a cock should be banned. But someone with silly opinions should be tolerated.

People with silly opinions are tolerated as long as it's in the interests of the keeping civil discussion within that forum. Anything that endangers that is usually a bannable offense.

OK. Maybe Boards.ie is small minds anonymous. But a real community accepts all opinions, not just the ones you agree with.

Facism.ie is probably your kind of place...
