NTL Unstable pings - Galway

    Hi

    Just got NTL in last week. The pings to servers fluctuate constantly. I had eircom dsl which always gave a fairly constant ping to a server but this seems really bad. I havent been able to play a proper game of Battlefield 2 since i got this connection.

    Im in the Headford Road area of Galway and just wondering does anyway else from around here have a dodgy connection.

    For instance on a server there, the lowest ping in BF2 was about 40 but it could fluctuate right up to 180 and it changes wildly every second... Its been like this since day one. Its same in any game or just running a ping

    Any ideas? Was trying to get onto to NTL support today but I was on hold for ages so I gave up in the end....

    The other thing i notice is the downstream snr and receive level also constantly changes - seems to vary between say 36 and 37 db ( for snr ) all the time in steps of .3 or so

    A downstream SNR of 36-37 dB is excellent. Anything above 30dB is fine. Its only when you go below 30dB that its a problem. What's your transmit power?

    downstream transmit power at the moment is 8.2 dBmV but it seems to fluctuate up to 9.6 at times

    i ran some tracerts and the slow pings seem to be occuring on dublin ntl servers so I may need to call them

    the first hop is always ok...
