    LOVE knows no barriers and now Ireland's increasingly cosmopolitan society is to be reflected in a new range of Valentine cards.

    An Irish card company, Byrne's Bookstores, has launched the country's first Valentine cards specifically designed for gay couples, visually impaired lovers and Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian and Portuguese speakers.

    The introduction of cards for gay lovers was last night welcomed by the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (Glen), despite the fact that production problems has delayed the lesbian cards among the range.. Glen director Ciaran McKinny said: "Byrne's has recognised the commercial niche for products aimed at same-sex couples who often have to use inappropriate cards."

    The National Council for the Blind of Ireland also welcomed the new Braille Valentine cards, while the Polish Valentine cards have so far been the biggest sellers. See www.byrnegroup.ie
