Donegal and Cork retained their INDO Irish Inter-Counties titles at the West County Hotel in Ennis on Sunday, February 12th.

24 counties competed in the men’s event and the teams were divided into six groups and were played on a round robin basis. The group winners were Limerick, Donegal, Kildare, Wexford, Dublin and Cork leaving the six runners-up to play-off in a late-night session for the other two quarter-final places.

In the early hours of Sunday morning Mayo and Sligo eventually won through after some marathon tussles. The late night took it’s toll on these teams as they were unable to raise their game again on Sunday with Mayo losing 3-7 to Donegal and Sligo being white-washed 0-7 by Wexford.

Dublin and Limerick clinched the other two semi-final places with victories over Kildare and Cork, respectively.

Donegal defeated Wexford 7-2 and Limerick beat Dublin 7-5 to set up a repeat of last year’s final

There was no stopping Donegal once again as they captured their fifth title in succession with a 7-4 against Limerick in a classic final.

Old rivals Cork and Carlow battled it out in the final of the Ladies’ Championship after both teams had qualified from the same group in the preliminary stages.

They were joined by Dublin and Leitrim from Group (2), Westmeath and Clare from Group (3) and Donegal and Wexford from Group (4). The Cork girls were also going for a fifth title and they showed their intentions with a 4-0 win over Leitrim in the quarter-finals and a 4-1 victory against Westmeath in the semi-finals. Carlow had 4-3 victories against Donegal and Dublin en route to the final.

Cork had the perfect start in the final winning the first game but they were rocked back on their heels when Carlow fought back to win the next three to go 3-1 up. But the Cork team rallied strongly and won the next three for a memorable 4-3 win.
