Excellent Indian Restaurant on Steamboat Quay - The eastern Tandoori.

They do an excellent lunch for E6.50 on Thursday and Friday (used to be everyday until recently). Must be the best value in Rip-off Ireland.

    Mogul Emporer
    1 henry street limerick

nice indian food out of there, have only had stuff delivered from there I don't know if it is a restaurant or just a take away.

you could also have a look through www.goldenpages.ie ito find other types of food. IIRC there is a thai restaurant in limerick also but don't know the name of the top of my head.

Freddy's Bistro was voted best restaurant outside Dublin there a few years ago. It's down beside The Glen Tavern.

"Copper and Spice" (down beside the Milk Market) does indeed do Indian and Thai food and is excellent. Not exactly cheap but worth it. Good early bird menu too.

Also, "The Yellow Lemon" around the corner from it is worth checking out. The interior is a bit bland but the food is very authentic (Indian) and very tasty. Often get home delivery from there.

Also if you're looking for Italian I'd suggest the "Piccolo" on O'Connell St, near "The White House". It's actually 2 restaurants. One quite expensive serving very good general Italian food and the other (next door) mainly doing pizza.

"Milano's" down on the banks of the Shannon is very nice too and quite cheap.

ya i got to say copper and spice got to
b the best in the city no doubt

If you're looking for Italian, try Bella Italia, it's on thomas street, one of the nices places i've ever eaten. Nyom!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 307 ✭✭Haket

Lemongrass in Punches Cross for slightly different asian.

Brulees on Henry street corner near the tax office for a good mix (but expensive)

Bella Italia, for cheap quality food.

Mogul for the best indian, interior/exterior is a bit cack but the staff and food is niiiice, as if the Yellow lemon.

Great Italian bistro in Castletroy in the new shopping area near the Vivo, expensive again but worth it.

Penz in Raheen over little-Cloghessys, so some fine dishes.

Freddys bistro is excellent too (I'm goin there tonight :-) )

Donkey Fords for "traditional" chipper. Bring a sponge for the grease tho.

Dunno if the Greek restaurant on Steamboat Quay is still open, That had a traditional greek menu (I had the set 7 course meal there once) fantastic.

Fat Zoes is pretty good too, but can be a little hit and miss.

Moll Darbys beside the Locke pub do good steaks.

Luigi Malone's (in Dublin also) is across from the old George Hotel on O'Connell Street. Specialise in Italian but do some other European.

The Jasmin is next to Luigi Malone's - Chineese - do a nice all inclusive Sunday lunch buffet but can be very busy.

Texas Steakhouse - O'Connell Street next to Empire Music do a great steak and also Tex Mex menu, reasonibly priced.

Zewee Ton's - Chineese - next to the Old Quarter Bar on the corner of Denmark Street. Also overhead Russell's bar in Raheen.

Rogue Traders - Overhead The Bank bar on O'Connell St - do a nice steak but are a bit pricey.

Copper N Spice - Indian - across from "The Market" nightclub where Lyric FM used to be.

Bella Italia Bistro - Thomas Street - Italian Restaurant - reasonibly priced and the food is nice.

I didnt think the prices were that bad, there are more expensive places. the texas steakout is a right rippoff compared to rogue traders.

Last time I was in Rogue Trader's a steak cost €25 and the service was poor (under staffed). Maybe it has changed since then.

There is also a Malayan restaurant open in the Clarion Hotel. It is supposed to be good. You can also get Malayan food in the hotel bar and they serve up to 9.00pm. I ate there before Christmas and was impressed with both the food and the service.

    Hello Metallicababe,

This is my husband's & I favourite hobby! For Indian food The Mogual Emperor on Henry St is the best. Yes, Copper & Spice is more asthetic, but the food is over priced and the portions are small in comparison to the Mogual. Poppadom is also quite nice.

For Italian, Fat Zoes on rutland St is good, as is La romana. I think La Picola is over rated.

The best stekahouse is the Texas Steakout. But be prepared to rush in and rush out, it's not the kind of place that you can sit for hours over a glass of wine.

Rogue traders is also very good.

The best French restuarnt is The River Bar, Charlotte Quay, A lovely restaurant with a high enigh price range (but worth it)

Freddies is an old favourite with everyone, but in my opinion the quality has been dropping lately.

My absolute favourite restaurant in Limerick City is the Market Square Brasserie on O' Connell Avenue. It's fairly new about 12 months open, and it is 10/10 for menu selection, atmosphere and service.

    hope this will help!

Apparently, there is a big conspiracy among a lot of chinese restaurants. A friend of mine found out that there is a warehouse near the Wilton Shopping Centre in cork city where a lot of chinese restaurants get their supplies from. Ive seen deliveries from this warehouse (or company) go as far mitchelstown and limerick city. This means most chineses are the same, only with varying levels of spice/veg in the sauces.

But IMO, the best chinese places are the ones with hot waitresses and little or no veg ;)

One mans conspiracy is anothers food wholesaler . . . . I hear that everyone in the Republic is in on a conspiracy to get electricity from a place called the ESB too ;-)

actually most of the food from chinese take aways come from the chinese supermarket on henry street.

and its the individual spices and ingredient combinations that make all the difference.

I never realised how big that supermarket was until i went in .. its like a Tesco. And there where two customers and one checkout person...??
But my fav. chinese in the city is the King Palace in Dooradoyle, awwwwwwwwww...
anyway its nice and they diliver too!!

Not conspiracy, more because there are only a few importers of Chinese ingredients (primarily Asian market from Dublin). Just like getting fresh seafood from one company, or meat from another. It's all business.

Anyhoo.. what do folks think of that noodle place off Cruises St? I don't go to any Chinese places in Limerick. Feel a bit embarrassed going into them! I go to a few in Dublin, where all the local Chinese hangout. ;)

The Lobster Pot: their battered sausage meal is fantastic. I'd recommend getting a pint of milk with it.

Apache Pizza's €5.50 deal for a 9-inch pizza and coke takes some beating.

Pizza Hot is great for kebabs. And pizza. Very reasonable prices too.

Superdine in Castletroy's garlic cheese chip usually hits the spot after a night in the Lodge. I got it once for my dinner and it's not the same.

The Wild Onion does a great lunch, portions are huge though and it's always packed.

    The Green Onion is quality.

The Indian restaurant above Xtra-Vision in Dooradoyle is very good, but last time I went there I got a vindaloo and my heart has never forgiven me.

Finn's bar used to do a really good steak and also seafood chowder, not sure if they still do it.

Player's bar has one of the best pub lunches in town.

The Student's Union shop in UL has a deal of €1.20 for a sausage baguette which is really good but you get sick of it after a while.

Mortell's does a really good fry up.

Subway does good sandwiches, but it's not great value and they generally don't fill me up.

For a good Chinese meal, look no further than the Shamrock Chinese takeaway on the Ennis Road. Z-We-Ton and the Wokking are also good.

Does anyone know if the Spur Steakhouse in the Crescent Shopping Centre still has that deal where if you can eat one of their 4lb steaks inside an hour you get to eat it for free? That's a challenge I'd be willing to accept.

BTW don't come crying to me if your arteries are choked after doing a tour of my recommended restaurants.

Hi gaf1983. Good advice from you except that, unfortunately, Finn's is gone. Reopening where Rubens used to be, at some time in the future. It's also nice to see somebody here who's able to spell. I know that doesn't seem important to a lot of people, but every now and then it's nice to see it, y'know? Actual real grammatical English. Imagine!

Thanks very much. What I think would be a really good idea would be if some late night fast food place started serving fry-ups when all the pubs and nightclubs close. I'd say they'd make a killing.
