I don't know if anyone's seen todays motoring section in The Irish Times - http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/motoring/2006/0215/267531824MOT15LIMITS.html

but it looks like part of the switch to metric included a provision for local councils to vote to change speed limits.

I rang Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Roads Traffic section(012054884) and they said the speed limits were covered by a local by-law.

I don't know much about by-laws but if the law says a vote is needed to set a speed limit at a non-standard speed shouldn't there be a vote?

Anybody else hear anything about this?
