    Hi there,

    Is anyone else experiencing terrible downstream speeds from BT this evening? I noticed pages were a bit sluggish and downloads from anywhere were going a max of 12-14KB/s a couple of hours ago.

    According to irishisptest my download is currently around 140kbps! Yet my upload remains a healthy 180kbps or so (I'm on the 2mb/256kb service) :confused:

    Usually I'm all for synchronous speeds but this is taking the p...

    Any ideas? People in the same boat? Or am I just being picked on by big bad BT

    (PS. Tried multiple restarts of PC/modem/router etc to no avail)

    I'm on the 3 meg/384 kbps service and the speeds are utter gash this evening. Upload is fine but download is painfully slow.

    On the Galway-Barna exchange. I've never had any real problems with speed before and the upgrade went totally smoothly for me.

    Aha, so it's not just me, good to hear that, but obviously in the scheme of things this just plain sucks :)

    Interesting indeed that people affected are both BT and UTV users... someone dropped the ball anyways...

    Thinking positively though, things _might_ be clearing up somewhat. Just ran another couple of speed tests and the situation has improved a bit, from a reported 140kbps earlier to 550kbps currently. Let's hope this performance hit is just tonight then eh lads

    Edit: My results from that testmy.net site:

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::
    Connection is:: 525 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB)
    Download Speed is:: 64 kB/s
    Tested From:: http://testmy.net
    Test Time:: Fri Feb 17 2006 01:16:03 GMT+0000 (GMT Standard Time)
    Bottom Line:: 9X faster than 56K 1MB download in 16 sec
    Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 43.79 % of your hosts average (esat.net)

    ...............

    I don't mean to be unduly pessimistic but previously when UTV and BT problems coincided there was a shortage of bandwidth for a couple of days and speeds slowed to a crawl at peak times and then began to improve as people retired for the night..............

    I'm on the Drogheda exchange with BT and the speeds last night were extremely poor. My download was crawling @ 90K but upload speeds were steady at twice that.

    It seems that since the recent upgrades the speeds are very hit and miss. One night I am getting the promised 2Mb or 1.74 and the next it's running no better than dial up. There must be some serious issues that Eircom need to resolve with the upgrades as a pretty stable service has gone very hit and miss.

    My speeds are fine again 1.7mbps down and 204kbps up 98% quality.
