Maybe it's time for Clearwire to sort their act out. Following is from ye olde BT ADSL connection :

    Tracing route to sip.blueface.ie [213.168.225.133]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 1 ms 1 ms <10 ms 192.168.5.1
    2 19 ms 21 ms 16 ms bas505.cwt.esat.net [193.95.136.241]
    3 15 ms 16 ms 16 ms vlan500.rt501.cwt.esat.net [193.95.136.124]
    4 15 ms 16 ms 16 ms vlan51.rt001.cwt.esat.net [193.95.130.137]
    5 17 ms 17 ms 16 ms ge0-0.br001.cwt.esat.net [193.95.129.4]
    6 18 ms 17 ms 16 ms 213.242.106.133
    7 17 ms 17 ms 16 ms 213.242.106.14
    8 18 ms 17 ms 18 ms hippo.blueface.ie [213.168.225.133]

    Trace complete.

Blaster, can you remember/find the thread that you asked for an NTL person to run a traceroute to sip.blueface.ie? I can't remember where is was or my results, I just remember it was 8 hops and I'm pretty certain it didn't go to England.

It goes over that Sprintlink crap with IBB as well, can't remember what happens with Eircom. My point remains, though.

I don't really care about the technicalities of the routing. I don't want my VoIP traffic to go all over the place.

This is what the tracert is to boards, by the way:

    Tracing route to www.boards.ie [82.195.136.250]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.100.1
    2 29 ms 33 ms 33 ms 85.134.128.3
    3 35 ms 33 ms 33 ms fe-0-0-0_0.bdr002.dublin.clearwire.ie [85.134.25
    5.12]
    4 35 ms 33 ms 41 ms panama-inex.hosting365.ie [193.242.111.87]
    5 32 ms 41 ms 33 ms corerouter1.hosting365.ie [82.195.128.7]
    6 44 ms 32 ms 33 ms boards.ie [82.195.136.250]

    Trace complete.

    and indeed esat.net

    Tracing route to ftp.esat.net [193.120.14.241]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.100.1
    2 30 ms 33 ms 33 ms 85.134.128.3
    3 47 ms 33 ms 33 ms fe-0-0-0_0.bdr002.dublin.clearwire.ie [85.134.25
    5.12]
    4 27 ms 33 ms 33 ms fe0-0.br001.inex.esat.net [193.242.111.17]
    5 35 ms 33 ms 41 ms pos2-3.core002.cwt.esat.net [193.95.131.5]
    6 42 ms 33 ms 33 ms ge1-0.core001.cwt.esat.net [193.95.129.17]
    7 47 ms 33 ms 33 ms pos3-0.core001.bmt.esat.net [193.95.131.42]
    8 35 ms 33 ms 41 ms vlan2.rt001.bmt.esat.net [193.95.140.3]
    9 31 ms 32 ms 33 ms ftp.esat.net [193.120.14.241]

    Trace complete.

Maybe the simple solution is to use Hosting365 for my VoIP needs. They seem to have very good connectivity.

I have to assume that ye olde BT connection is a well travelled route for many broadband users :

    Tracing route to www.boards.ie [82.195.136.250]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 1 ms 1 ms <10 ms 192.168.5.1
    2 196 ms 16 ms 16 ms bas505.cwt.esat.net [193.95.136.241]
    3 18 ms 15 ms 18 ms vlan501.rt501.cwt.esat.net [193.95.137.124]
    4 17 ms 16 ms 16 ms vlan51.rt001.cwt.esat.net [193.95.130.137]
    5 16 ms 17 ms 17 ms ge1-0.core002.cwt.esat.net [193.95.129.2]
    6 16 ms 19 ms 17 ms pos2-0.br001.inex.esat.net [193.95.131.6]
    7 17 ms 18 ms 18 ms panama-inex.hosting365.ie [193.242.111.87]
    8 21 ms 20 ms 22 ms corerouter1.hosting365.ie [82.195.128.7]
    9 22 ms 21 ms 24 ms boards.ie [82.195.136.250]

    Trace complete.

The point is that Clearwire users may have slower connections to many different services. Now if ADSL users have good fast pings to various services and Clearwire users don't then I think that the large majority of Irish broadband users have good speeds and Clearwire users don't. How is that Blueface's problem???

You da man. Is there a rough ETA?

Just thinking that it might be an idea to email your ISP and ask them to support bluefaces entry into inex and when in to form a peering arangement with them.

Membership was accepted yesterday. Getting physically connected and peering agreements in place will probably take a few weeks.

For the simple people like me, what will INEX connectivity mean? Less hops, faster connections, and hopefully more reliable connections?

All of the above I should think.
