    Hi all -

I am halfway through completing a website for a company and I have been to upload to the ftp site on it fine until last week, its an eircom server and was working fine but since last week I get the error 500 Connection timed out (Winsock error #10060) when connecting to the ftp server, I have not installed or modified any of my settings in windows or on my ftp client, I've tried a few different ftp programmes all giving the same error, I've been sending eircom emails for the last week and I am getting nowhere, I am presently on an irish broadband account and I've just contacted their support site and they are useless too, has anyone got any advice?

    Cheers

Eircom block non-Eircom ip addresses from accessing their webspace.
If you can, connect to the internet using dialup and the Eircom dialup number (1892150150) and see can you get access that way.

I don't know if it's related, but, weren't plus customers upgraded to 200 megs webspace? I could not upload 50 megs :/

From anything other than an Eircom connection you can't use FTP. I have complained to Eircom and Comreg that this is anti-competitive.

I started arguing with Eircom about this nearly 3 years ago.

They claim it is for security, but you need a username and pass anyway.

It used to work also by web browser
    Go here:
    http://upload.eircom.net/
And tranfer file by file using web manager

But I notice they have locked that out of non-Eircom connections too.
It means 3rd parties can only do Websites for Eircom customers if they have an Eircom connection.

I'm amazed the Web mail still works!

As a result of this, now that I have non-Eircom broadband I pay $60 a year to siteground for
    120G a month traffic.
    SQL and Perl/CGI
    12G Bytes space
mails boxes and sub domians and mail server on domain
Domain name free first year, $18 a year after.
Secure management from anywhere on any provider
    FTP
    etc.
Many free Internet applications at click of a button to install
    Makes Eircom's offer look rubbish.
So recommend your user get decent hosting.
