Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Problem trying to install Ubuntu

I just tried installing Ubuntu linux for AMD-64 on my PC.
When it reached the install base system step something went wrong, turns out the CD was corrupted. "Fine" I thought, I'll just restart in windows and get a new iso. Unfortunately my computer was now incapable of booting windows. I didn't do anything to my windows partition during the partitioning step and I turned off the bootable flag on my failed linux partition but no matter what I've tried it won't boot.

At this point I've put a second windows installation on my PC in a new partition and it's working grand but I'd rather fix the old one.

Oh, and running a repair install did nothing.

    I'm using:
    Windows XP Pro.
    AMD 64 3200+
    1GB RAM
    300gb HD (with various partitions)

You could install a grub boot sector from a knoppix cd, I done it once, took some tinkering about, off the top of my head I would not be able to tell you how to do it.

put in your win XP cd and load the installer. do a repair using the recovery console (this is not a windows installation repair). this will bring up a command line interface, and it will ask you which windows installation you want to logon to. type (1) and enter your password. then type fixmbr to fix the master boot record. this usually does the trick after messing up the mbr with a linux install, and has worked for me every time.
