They kick off at €35355 ex works list price.

    Delivery is €600.

Metallic, and spare wheel (comes with a tin of tyre weld as standard) are all extras.

Well I picked up the car on Monday and so far so good. I've driven it fairly easily so far, just to let the engine, suspension and tyres settle.

It has tremedous pull from low down the rev. range (under 2000 rpm) due to variable valve timing. I'll give it a few more revs as the miles clock up. The gearbox, brakes and clutch are all very positive. There are very few cars that you cannot pass if you want to (assuming it's safe to do so).

The suspension is firmer than a normal Focus obviously but is still comfortable. The seats (blue trimmed Recaros) are the best I've ever sat in.

It hasn't too many toys (deliberately) but does have a/c, rcl, and a thatcham cat. 1 alarm all as standard. It came with Auto lights strangely. The standard stereo is fine. The colour is distinctive certainly.

The boot really isn't too bad, and I've done a school run in it with small kids in the back. It's roomy back there in fact.

The noise of the engine is great. 5 cylinders make a very different sound.
    Some turbo noise also.

Lovely car, very best of luck with it. I have to say the design of the new focus is definately growing on me. Definately the way to go with the GTis becoming 2 a penny.

Hopefully they will bring out a version with the 2.2 TDCi next :)

Looks beautiful from the outside.....the interior just looks a bit too standard for my likin.....but god I wouldn't say no!
Looks so much better in that blue colour than the awful Orange

A diesel ST is an option Ford are looking at I understand.

Fletch, the interior is quite dynamically different from a normal Focus.

Firstly, you sit into, rather than onto the seat, which grips you in place. You notice trim differences like the polished scuffplates. The black headliner makes it feel quite purposeful. The instruments are different, as are the gearbox, lighting, pedals, etc.

You know you are in a serious car immediately, believe me.

The engine barks into life too, which is cool.

Maybe it's just the pic or somethin but all I can see is, metal drilled pedals, sporty seats, steering wheel, handbrake and an instrument cluster on the dash....doesn't look to have the same sense of occasion as say the Audi RS4(different class of car admittedly)
Must try get to sit in one and see what it's like

    A 5 door!;)

I haven't driven a new model GTI, but I'm sure they are excellent.

Id' have the Focus ST anyday over the Golf ;) Much more unique and stylish. And that 2.5L T sounds amazing.

    Practicality before syle unfortunately Henry.

The GTI is grand,it's still just a Golf at the end of the day,not an F1 car with headlights and indicators as some like to think ;)

"Sensible" hot hatches are starting to make a major revival, arent they... The Astra, Focus, and Golf are all lovely (and quick) machines.

The last time there was such choice was long before I was able to drive... possibly the days of the Astra GTE and Escorts?

Yeah the only thing that lacks luster by looks are the wheels on that astra. They look tiny.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,060 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

maybe its just the sport hatch?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭blahblah06

Its only the 1.4 with the styling kit on it. only one in ireland mind u. Hence why the wheels are smaller though. saving for news ones though watch this space lol. as im eonly young couldnt get insured on the OPC but i love my GTC

edit also meant to say the wheels are bigger then my odl clio so im happy LOL

Always said the new Astra 3 door was a cracking looking car.

It's streets ahead of the 5 door.

p.s. Done about 350k of mixed drivng in the ST so far. No problems at all, other than the need for self restraint. The overtaking ability really is fantastic, without having to rev the engine hard or stir the gearbox. With variable valve timing, a wall of torque whisks you along.

Fuel consumption is improving, now mid/high 20's mpg.

I've never owned a VW or a Ford so have no particular bias.

    A few points:

Just from experience of shopping around, Ford dealers seem 'nicer' people to do business with. I've been to a couple of VW dealers & found them snotty & arrogant.

The Golf V interior is not a patch on the MKIV. I mentioned this to one of the aforementioned VW salesmen & he threw a huff. 'Tis true though.

The Focus interior is no great shakes either... I'll probably get blasted for this but here goes - Fords, IMO, are chav cars. The ST just looks like a tarted up 1.4 3 door...

On balance, I'd go for the Golf. Wouldn't be seen dead in the Focus...
