Weird... saw my first ST in Portmarnock yesterday after saying I still hadn't seen one.

STILL waiting on Hibernian to get back to me...if it was new business they'd say no straight out they said.

I rang Ford Insure.. guess what? They don't insure the FORD Focus ST. I gave the poor girl on the phone some tongue in cheek stick over that one I can tell you.

Ford Insure and Hibernian are run and staffed by the same people using identical underwriting but using different premium rates.

I think you may come up shy on this one.

I'm aware of that alright, I used them for the Fords I owned in the past, found them pretty cheap.

Hibernian will have to quote me something on it, they don't really have a choice AFAIK.

Looking for a new car myself. I have looked at the GTI but would go for the
octavia vrs over it (too many gti's). Might not look as good on the outside but same engine and a whole lot of kit (climate control, cruise control, part leather seats etc). The golf is lacking on standard gear. Looked at the OPC but too much power to the front wheels and a bit of a rough ride imo. I will wait to see the Leon FR before i decide but looks like the vrs for me. 2.5 engine on the ST puts me off due insurance and tax etc.

Omega - you're right about the RS, it's a great car and the spec is impressive.

The GTI has lost its standard sunroof and now has air conditioning instead but it's still no climate.

Not many RS's around alright, I'm 24 though, I'd look stupid driving one.

Since when did the GTI lose the sunroof ?
I got mine aboot 6 wks ago and got the sunroof.

Scandalous how we miss out compared to the UK et al.

  • Registered Users Posts: 558 ✭✭✭mrbungle

To paraphrase what Clarkeson said about Honda's vs. GTI's:

If you buy a Honda you get a Honda, if you buy a VW you don't get a Honda.

Same goes for a Skoda, my opinion.

    Not sure how long.

I was in getting a cost of change price for my 2005 one into a new one and the spec was explained to me.

In fairness, air con is only 400 quid or something, they could've thrown it in and left the roof.

You know wrong. Just to put you on the path to enlightenment. Individual insurers have the right to refuse you cover, but they must provide you with a reason for the refusal should you ask for one. However, even though you have been refused cover, you are entitled to go to the Declined Cases Committee of the Irish Insurance Federation who will obtain an insurance quotation for you. In order for the Committee to consider your case you must first have sought and been refused quotations in writing from at least three insurers. FACT

I saw that one myself one night. He said even though the Type R was quicker he'd still prefer the gti.

You're using this new word FACT a lot lately.. what's the story with that?

I think you'll find what you've posted above is actually on new business.

Just for those who are interested in the ST. Hibernian got back to me. First ST they've quoted on. :D

€3,300 fully comp on the ST. I asked about a 04 BMW 325ci and they said there'd be no extra charge

    Jaysus !!

My GTI is €670 for the year and that cos my bird is on it with 18months provisional !!! (She's doesn't drive it often !!)

Details: 30, Male, Full 2 yrs, NCB 5, (crash in 2001, £7500 total damage !!!)

Where is the justice for the young male GTI/ST drivers in Ireland !!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 944 ✭✭✭Big Balls

The GTI is a lot more reasonable. For a difference of 20bhp, to go from 1900 fully comp to 3,300 is a joke!

Your quote is pretty good in fairness, I'm only 24 but I've a full licence 5 years and nearly 6 years NCB.. I might put the girlfriend on the policy next year without telling her. :D

Not true BB. They offered me TP only for €2500 about 3 or 4 months ago.

St. Paul did the biz. for a little under €1000 for comp.

Why are you even entering into this debate??? IF YOU HAVE A POLICY WITH A COMPANY AND YOU CHANGE CARS MID POLICY, THEY HAVE TO QUOTE YOU. STOP POSTING RUBBISH!!!!!!!!

HFIII - only passing on what Hibernian told me. You got a good deal in the end.

No they don't. They can refuse to give you a quote. As happened my mate with AXA when he changed car to a Jag XK8. It's OK to admit you don't know what you're talking about. I don't care.

Wolf gives hottest hatch added bite
As well as a Focus 4x4, developments are taking place with Ford's Focus ST hot hatch.

    26th July 2006
Upgrades give flagship ST healthy power boost
German tuning specialist Wolf Concept has put together a package of engine and suspension upgrades that make the blue oval's fastest Focus even more rapid.

Among the improvements is a new turbocharger for the 2.5-litre five-cylinder motor which, together with a revised management system, boosts power from 217bhp to a massive 296bhp and takes torque from 320Nm to 386Nm.

That should shave at least a second off the 0-60mph sprint time - cutting it to 5.5 seconds - and considerably sharpen in-gear response. To cope with the power, the Wolf Concept set-up also includes suspension upgrades, as well as wider tyres and 19-inch wheels. The package is available through Wolf Concept in the UK and at selected Ford dealers.

Henry - Im heading to the Ford Fair in Silverstone and the Wolf Focus should be there. Gonna try and get a test drive. Will let you know if the mods are worth 5k sterling.

Grand, but I'm happy as is tbh.

any problems with yours yet? how many miles have you done?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 17,711 Mod ✭✭✭✭Henry Ford III

No problems at all. Low miles c.5500kms. It feels like the engine is getting stronger as it beds in. Averaging high 20's per gallon, which is ok. It is comfortable, practical, and when needed has a lot of power even low down in the range. Overtaking is a doddle. The engine note is cool.

    Yourself?

  • Registered Users Posts: 367 ✭✭sneakyST

I've done just over 8000km. Engine note gets louder. getting more pops from the exhaust too which scares the odd cyclist:D . 22.9mpg is my best yet which isnt too bad. Should be bringing it to mondello in spetember to have a proper blast.
Have a small niggle making hard lefts..it seems that the brake dust cover might be rubbing off something but cant pin point it. Other than that no problems

Rialto motors had the Focus ST demo car last week/week before, don't know if they still have, but there is definitely a demo knocking around Dublin (it was on my company car list but I've accepted the allowance instead so the ST idea is out of the window).

Stunning motor, Ford Airside had one at the start of the year which I sat in, I'm not sure if Ford Ireland are doing it like the UK where there is ST1, ST2, ST3 spec levels.

Hi, What kind of job do you have that would allow you to get a high performance company car?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 17,711 Mod ✭✭✭✭Henry Ford III

Not too fast tbh. I waft along a little over 100 kph usually.

I do use the torque for overtaking when I need it rather than use the power for silly speeds.

I don't work for them (anymore). I was working for a UK company here, and their car policy was that whatever is on the list there at the grade I was at, I could have here. The problem was the way BIK is calculated, absolute killer! I do voice engineering, incidentally.
St. Paul did the biz. for a little under €1000 for comp.
Slightly off topic, how can I get a quote from St. Paul, I have a yearning for an E55 AMG after Xmas and no-one likey anything over 5000cc?
