This story is kind of a warning to all those who say we should throw money at Eircon and let them get on with it.

In the USA public subsidies for infrastructure were pocketed, spent on wireless and DSL rather than fibre like it was supposed to have been. The phone companies collected over $200 billion in higher phone rates and tax perks, about $2000 per household over the last ten years or so. $200 Billion worth of dark fibre

So to summarise the leading telcos were allowed to increase their costs in return for improving their network. The network improvemnets never happened but the changes were allowed to stand.

We argue that the company made false statements that changed the laws and that those laws should never have been allowed to stand based on what the company delivered. The monies should be refunded or given to others, such as the municipalities, to do the work.

I thought one of the health boards was using some of the western digital corridor?? wetern health board afaik

Other than that the rest of it is just lying there, does fibre rot? well maybe not the fibre itself being glass but the protective covering?

In a few thousand years it might dribble out the ends a little. Glass is a supercooled liquid. It's just very very stiff. Plastic sheaths need UV light to rot.
