Does anyone know any good Dublin trivia questions for a pub quiz?

    Ones we have so far:

5 places in Dublin ending in O

10 animals contained in Dublin placenames: eg Foxrock

What is the only road in Dublin 1.

    Anyone know any others.

I had a list of 'guess the burbs' word games, from memory.

What town is a motionless musical instrument? Stillorgan.
    Spheres cross here? Ballsbridge.
    An Honest opinion? Fairview.
Single men cant run? Batchelors walk.
    The professor eases off? Donabate.
    Where duelling weapons meet? Swords.

I had a list with about 20 but cant find Sorry!

    Conyngham Road & Phoenix Park.

That has changed over time - Dublin 15 was extended into Dublin 7 a few years ago.

+1 on the question being wrong.
What's the nearest road to O'Connell Bridge (CC)? Memorial Road. (We had it some previous thread)

The Monto for ending in O.

Dublin 8 also includes Parkgate St.(Has won pints from bets:))

Phibsboro is correct, it's an acceptable varient of Phibsborough.

EDIT: For the place names with animals: Goatstown, Leopardstown...

This question should read what is the closest road to O' Connell Bridge - Memorial Road. Incidentally afair the nearest road on the southside is Ross Road

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

The garden in O'Connell Street is on top of the GPO. The other O'Connell Bridge is the one over the lake in St. Stephen's Green.

A simple one for ye all: What is the name of the huge obelisk near the entrance of the Phoenix Park?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,515 ✭✭✭✭admiralofthefleet

    the wellington monument?

more trivia: the lion that roars at the start of mgm movies was born in dublin zoo

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

    the wellington monument?

That's a common misconception. It is actually the Wellington Testimonial. A monument is built to honour a dead person. It was built when Wellington was alive, so it is actually a testimonial even though he is now dead. It is like a soccer player's testimonial is played while he is still alive. So although nearly everyone will tell you it is the Wellington Monument, it actually isn't. Chalk it up in your "You learn something new everyday" column. :)
