I have a 98 Lancer due for NCT in a month or so.
Should breeze it, but the revcounter is'nt working, will this lead to fail??

Nope it won't fail on rev counter. The main things to watch out for when it comes to instruments and the NCT is that your speedo works and illuminates and that your main beam warning light comes on when it should.

Thanks Brian, thought that alright, but my mates reckoned it might be a problem.

In some cases there are things that you don't need to have for the NCT, but if you do have them and they don't work you can fail. Not sure if that'd apply to the rev counter or not.
