I presume what you want is lengths of TG&V. Any builders supplier or B&Q type shop should have loads of this.

Would that be chaeper than tiles? Also would it require any specialised fitting?

Use HDF the extgerior grade, and form the panel arrangements similar to the old victorian houses. Prime and gloss to suit your taste. looks terrific

B&Q, Woodies, Atlantic - they all sell this. You can either buy packs of it pre-finished or you can buy the timber and finish it yourself.
One handy thing about B&Q is that you can get the timber cut to the length required. This can be a great timesaver.

Can you provide a Diagram of this?

Are you saying attach a sheet of 8*4 to a wall and then put Dado or tohse strips of timber in squares/rectangles onto this. What is the diff between HDF and MDF other than the density. Why would you use HDF

Wnen I was in the States on Hols i came accross pannelling that came ins sheets with a T&G patern. It would be Handy for fininshing.

to the OP i'm doing the same to my bath roomsoon

Yes that sounds like what I want to do, can you by any chance explain a little further as I am a pure novice on this.

I will do a 3d cad diagram for you tomorrow, thats my earliest opportunity.

Basically....you attach the base panel to the wall, either the full heaight , or more probably up to about 4 foot.

You then use 100 mm wide strips of hdf as well, to plant along the top edge, on the face. Plant a 200 wide strip along the panel at the floor, where you normally place the skirting. And place vertical 100 mm strips at left and right edge, and one or two verticals equally in the rest of the panels.

You should now be looking at 3 or 4 rectangles on the base panel. Now mitre a nice wooden mould ,similar to slips holding in glass in a window, along the edges of your planted slips.

Sorry for any confusion, but I will post 3d's as soon as I can

HDF external grade , more suitable in moisture prone areas,

Rooferpete, glad to see you are on the ball......s...rt...ss..lol

    Kadman,
Sorry to bug ya, but could you find time to do this?
Alternatively I could call in to you some time. I'm not far from Kilbeggan.
    Thanks,
    /M.
