Anyone having high pings to servers outside of Ireland?
Irish servers pinging fine for me.
Seems to happen for random periods almost a daily occurance now.
I recall this happening to many eircom customers here on boards a few weeks back and before.
    eircom 3mb connection.

    Hi,

Same thing happening to me. I play on a cod2 server in canada and well it aint easy with a ping of 280 :(

Emailed eircom to ask what was going on, even sent them the tracert info i did to the server and they said the problem wasn't with their server.

Well that wasn't correct, and when I did a new tracert the problem seems to start for me at:

    4 225 ms 227 ms 234 ms pos0-0.corea.thn.london.eircom.net [ 159.134.191.234]

Just waiting on their reply (says 24 hours but in all my other emails to them their response took 3 days) :(

Anyone else got similar info in their tracerts?

edit - (here is my tracert info in full)

    Tracing route to H77.C29.B96.tor.eicat.ca [66.96.29.77]

The problem often isn't with Eircom and is instead the fault of those they may be peering with abroad. If a router goes on the blink in the UK then they can't really do much but wait until it's fixed!

eircoms whole network kinda went down the pan after the last upgrades in late January, it seems totally over-loaded/congested then after midnight its all back to normal, not much good to me when im in bed.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,713 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

    Still the same tonight fs.

    4 225 ms 227 ms 234 ms pos0-0.corea.thn.london.eircom.net [ 159.134.191.234]

This happened some time ago , if you do a search here the guy that posted it said that he rang up the above ppl and it was them that rectified it .

    Edit : found it http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=50437497&postcount=16

This is one of my main gripes with eircom . I have a friend working with xs4all in Holland and he says when they get a call like that , they ring up the ppl and ask them to solve it , I suggested this to eircom the last time , as a customer feedback type of suggestion and they had absolutely no interest . How much could it possibly cost them or how much time , against the good feedback they would get from it .

i notice the attitude on here is that its always the isp's fault

    Thanks jonski.

So has anyone told eircom about the problem (still waiting on a reply to my email, think I should give up and ring them).

Willymuncher can you do a tracert to the server you play on in the UK and post it, also do one to the one I play on 66.96.29.77 and see what your ping is like there.

    Thanks

loverly service from eircom as always:(

If I cancell Eircom Broadband and go for Esat Broadband, how much downtime can I expect, im sick of eircom cant take any more of this ****ty service

Got a reply back from eircom:
Can you try changing your modem's DNS settings to use our old DNS.

Enter our old DNS numbers(159.134.237.6 and 159.134.248.17)
    Click on Save and restart

This may improve the speed of your broadband.

Both the servers you mention are the same, it appears to be a routing
    issue in their server.

Well seeing as how I had these entered from a previous email and I still have the problem its not much help.

What I wish they would do is get the guys whose servers they use to fix the bloody thing or if possible use another server to do that peering thingy.

How do they expect me to fix it when I dont even know who operates the server they say has routing problems :(

Ive been monitoring the pings this afternoon.
Pings were 40-50 to UK server as id expect all afternoon until soon after 4pm.
    They have gone crazy again.
Irish pings yet again are perfect.
Ive just come from a few German BF2 servers to test out and ping was below 40 on all three german servers.
Ive also tried some French and Dutch servers and pings are sub 40 aswell.
It has to be how we are getting routed to UK.

I rang eircom yesterday and told them about this issue yet again and like you guys they were not interested in the uk issue.
All they do is get you to do their eircom speedtest but what good is that as its only to their servers.

Yep same crap again this afternoon :(

Pings of over 200 to UK servers....

Well just got off the phone with eircom.

Told him the problem with the london router and he asked me what I wanted him to do.

Told him I wanted to know when it would be fixed and that this didnt happen until a couple of weeks ago.

He said that its happening through use and when I asked him if that means its going to be like this from now on he said YES!

Maybe the more exchanges that open up the worse the latency will get. Funny this never happened to me until those new exchanges opened on the 15th of February.

I guess that means I'll be looking for a bb provider that can handle expansion and use on its servers better.

since the eircom upgrade in late January my connection has been as good as useless so im gonna look into changing providers soon, ive had enough of 500ms pings and isdn style download speeds. this upgrade has destroyed the eircom broadband service.
