Saw it on the news this morning.

Turns out that most of the US ports are actually controlled by a UK company (P&O). They want to sell it to a company from Saudi. A lot of Republicans are seriously upset over this for the obvious reasons. However Bush has said he will veto any blocking of the sale.

I'm surprised he would do that considering his ratings are in the toilet at the moment.

Well, whatever you say about Bush's principles, at least he stands by them.

Does the US reduce its 'Free market' capitalism on the altar of security? Since the Free Market is pretty much what makes the US what it is, then I happen to agree with him: If Americans are pissed off that a foreign company is in charge of the ports, get an American company up and running to do the job. It's not as if the Coast Guard and Customs Service are being relegated to being operated by the UAE, security issues should be more or less the same.

UAE actually, not Saudi. AFAIK they are looking at some European Ports also.

    Iran isn't an Arabic country.

Yes, but you mentioned Tehran, the capital of Iran, a non-Arabic country.

Bush has spent the last few years sturring up fear of the middle east. Two or three of the 911 hijackers were from the UAE and its been linked as a source of financing. Looks like the UAE had more connection to AL Queda than Iraq did. Iraq gets invaded UAE gets a business contract. Just demonstrates what a sham the homeland security and war on "terror" really is.

Democrats and Republicans are opposing the sale, Bush has finally been a uniter instead of a divider for once.
