Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I quite like that Universal Love - "Ritmo Da Rua" (Brian Tappert Prime Time vibe) track Zascar, very tasty number

i like my disco and my down temp deep house stuff.

sister sledge - thinking of you(probably my favourite dance track)
The Pointer Sisters - Dare Me
Fish Go Deep - Nights Like These

I know those are pretty much old tunes for the foremost but it's what i'm listening to at the moment.....and the Pharcyde...

Techno: Stigmata (Chris Liebing & Andrew Wooden) - 8/10 B1 - feckin mp3 cuts off just as it's about to launch into it.

Progressive house: Blue Haze - Into Nothing (Bill Hamel mix)

Underground house for me at the moment, be it deep, funky, techy, acid or tribal/latin. I guess the style could be referred to as US style, Chicago and West Coast. Occasionally I'll find myself liking the odd electro house tune, like the Mylo remix of No More Conversations, but other than that it's strictly pure house for want of a better description. I actually despise this whole current electro house fad thing and the sooner it passes the better. It's not even real electro as some people like to call it and most of it is bassline obsessed cheesy rubbish.

I'm also a huge fan of breaks (particularly nu skool breaks) and minimal techno of the sort that Richie Hawtin plays sometimes. House is where my heart is without question but good music is good music as far as I'm concerned so I won't write unfamiliar stuff off at least without hearing it first.

Some artists and labels that would reflect the stuff I'm listening to right now (and mixing again when I return to Dublin on a month!) in terms of tunes and mixes.

    Artists:

Joey Youngman and aliases ie Mario Fabriani
    Lawnchair Generals
    Bryan Jones
    Inland Knights
    Swirl People
    Swag
    DJ Sneak
    Da Funk
    Sound Republic
    Chuck Love
    Magik J
    Digital Minds
    Ross Couch
    Kerri Chandler
    Troydon
    The Littlemen
    The Greenskeepers
    Peace Division
    Da Sunlounge
    Andy Caldwell
    Johnny Fiasco
    Trentemoller
    Tony Thomas

    Labels:

    Drop Music
    Fetish
    Jackin Tracks
    Control Recordings
    Aroma
    Nightshift
    Detour
    Tango
    NRK
    Black Cherry
    Guesthouse

Erm, no way! Not yet anyway... I'm been travelling since last April but I'll be back in Good old Dublin in less than a month and I'm gonna try and start getting some gigs!

Maybe you're confusing me with a guy called Giles Armstrong who used to play in Electric City on Thursdays - don't think he plays similar stuff though way more ital-disco and electro from what I remember. He's a pretty good DJ as well.

Funny this thread starting now, I picked up a double album last night that Iv been after for ages, a friend got it for me.................the saturday night fever soundtrack, I adore it, if there are tracks with more 'vibe' than 'more than a woman' and 'night fever' I havnt heard them yet.

Individual tracks that best describe what inspires me..............
    Papue New Guinea=FSOL
    Pacific State=808 State.
Those tracks are for me the pinical of 'dance music' and nothing since then has come close to making me feel the same way about 'dance music' though I must give special mention to some tracks that though not in the same league as FSOL and 808 State are still in my view great tracks......
Mylo=drop the pressure, drives me wild that track does.
Chable and Bonnici=Ride, another modern day monster.
    Josh Wink=Higher State of Conciousness
Chemical Brothers=Out of Control and the Test (love it love it love it so much :D ).

On a slightly different buzz I also love.........
    Style Council=Long Hot Summer
    Shalimar=Illusion

On a still different buzz I love
    New Order=Blue Monday

For whoever post the link to N-Joi=Anthem, god bless you, Iv got me credit card out to order the 12'' of that site as we speak.
Loved that track and had a crush on the singer Saffron for years after I saw the video for it, god Im auld:D

    Sound Clips mate?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

I guess i'm leaning towards the "dubs" style of hard house at the moment... shame there's nowhere near enough of the stuff coming out at the moment to construct a full set:(
Digital Kid & Elvis - Elevated is the first example that springs to mind

Well on that website with the N-Joi clip Iv just found Shades of Rhythm so me creditcards gonna take a hammering.
These tracks really should have been on my all time favourites list but more so for the memories than the actual quality of the music but heres the link

    http://www.htfr.com

type in Shades of Rhythm and the tracks are Sound Of Eden and Sweet Sensation

808 State and the tune Pacific State

The original mix of Papua New Guinnea by FSOL isnt on the site though for some reason

blue monday is a seriously quality bit of tunage, don't think i'll ever get tired of throwing that one into the mix
definitely one of the records i'm proudest of owning:)

and i didn't think much of the pressing quality of the label that the Njoi tune is on, the vinyl is wafer thin and didn't sound that great (i bought rez/cowgirl and could be bothered buying anything else on that label, no matter how appealing it looked)
hate to say this, but you could've prolly picked it up a few quid cheaper in HMV:o

1 track doing damage at the moment is Ferrer & Sydenham's "back door" on Ibadan. Class

Not a bother mate, it isnt the greatest track int he world anyways its as much about a time in me life as the music.
I think that last statement just proves how ****ing auld I really am, cant believe I said it! :D

currently i'm all about the smooth dubby soulful deep drum and bass...

rolling breakbeats, cheeky little basslines, the odd chick singing... reggae horn and guitar samples with plenty of echo...

    labels:::

    soul:r
    bassbin
    signature
    shout
    outsider
    innerground
    exit /exitVS

    producers:::

    calibre
    d:bridge
    zero tolerance and beta 2
    trax
    seba
    big bud
    commix
    klute
    digital
    alix peres
    breakage
    mathematics
    mutt
    survival

unless i'm in a drunken mood in which case i lash out the filth....

    kryptic minds and leon switch
    b-key
    loxy and ink
    hive
    arcon 2
    spirit

although my heavy and dark selection isn't nearly as up to date as my smooth stuff... a heavy tune has to be pretty special for me to buy it,so i tend to buy a bit less than i do the funky rolling stuff

Why could you possibly have a problem with it? Whats wrong with sharing a little with the other forum mebers on what type of music you are into. You just might learn something.

All I'm trying to do is get some discussion going in this forum that doesn't involve people pimping their own club nights
