not to mention an 8 point deduction no it was all you yay.
I can think of plenty of terms other than "fan" to describe the followers of Rovers. Why don't you change the record?

i presume he'll change his record when you do, grow up "fan" what nonsence
Losing 6-4 to Rovers at Tolka Park a couple of years ago, seeing the visiting "fans" invading the pitch every time they scored.

but maybe this has something to do with it 6-4 you say? well i'd remember but you know with an honours list the length of ollies rap sheet you tend to forget these little wins. oh ps im sure your "fans" never invaded a pitch. such a self indulgent post.

shouldn't the post regarding italia 90 mention ireland's (or englands) beating etc?

mine was dropping down last year after 83 years in irelands top flight, a tarnish on the EL's greatest record 15leagues, the EL will never be the same again, or atleast till we get promoted

Probably not, given that we were never expected to beat one of the favourites for the tournament on their home soil after only scoring two goals in four games.

When the news broke that mccann bought celtic my grandfather just broke down(good rest his soul) he got a phone call from a friend who was standing outside the bank of scotland with the rest of the celtic fans.
Sorry for being stupid and not understanding. Can you explain exactly why when McCann bought Celtic on 3 March 1994 you were told that you would never watch Celtic again?
Have you actually been to a Celtic match since then?

Actually another low for me was when Cork City played Celtic in Turners Cross.

9000 people there, 8000 shouting against the home team, and actually were gloating at the end when the mighty Celtic scraped a 2-3 win.

It was pathetic seeing grown men outside the ground afterwards "sing 3-2 to the champions" and "shove your city up your hole" - in a Cork accent i might add.

And people wonder why I dislike Celtic :D

Footballing wise the 1979 cup final Arsenal v Man Utd , United come back from 2 0 down to bring the game to 2 2 only to be beaten in the closing n minutes by an alan sunderland goal. It still sickens me today when I think of it.

Form a non footballing point of view I saw both Hillsborough and Heysel as they happened the 1985 Bradford stadium fire also comes to mind .

My top three worst moments as a fan:
Macedonia - not gonna say anything other than I nearly smashed the tv screen with the remote.
    Nayim - for obvious reasons
Owen in the Fa Cup Final,
theres been a few more, but the good times mostly outweigh the bad times, not many teams can say that.

    Sligo Rovers:
1996 League Cup Final Second Leg versus Shelbourne. Rovers won the first leg 1-0, we were leading the second game 1-0 and 2-0 on aggregate until Shels got two goals late in the second half (the equaliser was very late in coming) to tie up the game. We then lost on penalties.

    Getting relegated in 2000.

    AC Milan:
Losing last season's Champions League Final. Have never been more gutted watching a match.

    The 1995 CL Final.

The 6-1 defeat to Juventus a few seasons back.

    Ireland:
Losing a two goal lead against Israel in Dublin.

Watching the 1995 game against England on TV.

The manner in which we were eliminated from the 2002 World Cup, in a game we really should have won.

    Macedonia 1999.

    Anfield 1995.

    Brussels 1997

    Losing to Mexico in 1994.

    Saipan.

The first half on the match against Cameroon, our first after the above debacle.

EDIT: Somehow forgot THAT draw against Liechtenstein......

In 1987 being told by "me da" that the Pats match we were going to was the last one ever as they were going out of business , Kerr you fcuking Legend!!!

Losing 5-0 to Zimbru and paying for the away trip just before the game. And then losing 5-0 away at least they were consistent. After the previous seasons exploits we actually thought we could get a result vs these unknown lads, man were we wrong :D

Playing at home to Celtic in Tolka in CL and being outnumbered by Irish Celtic fans. (altho the previous week was my best moment) Watching Irish people boo irish players playing for an irish club vs a British one is an odd/sickening experience.

Losing to Shels in FAI cup final semi final after 10 minutes injury time allowed them to equalise and then score the winner, and it gets the worse the next day in work the scorer abused me all bleedin day.

But the single worst moment ever has to be away to Dundalk in 2001 when we "won" the league on a thursday night by having more points/wins/goals then everyone else. But knowing the next day Shels were going to the high court to overturn the points decision. At the final whistle we had insurmoutnable points and the horriblest half hearted cheer of "champions champions" was wrong. Hopefully noone else will have to suffer that, except Shels.

    Ireland vs Spain 2002........

there isn't any point in getting into it with them, look at the way they use inverted commas to decribe rovers fans, they obviously feel we're all hooligans, and just won't say it, or atleast use veiled attempts to express it.

by the sound of their decriptions of Rovers fans you'd need Chuck Norris, Mr T, Mike Tyson and Hulk Hogan acting as stewards to keep us in the stands.

Can't believe no one has mentioned this one, Ireland losing to Italy in Italia '90. It was our first time in the finals of the World Cup, beating Romania after peno's, I honestly thought that we were invincible. I can still remember Schillaci putting the ball past Bonner, broke my wee heart at the time.

Because that was my lowest point as a Shels fan. Collapsing to your shower and being taunted by pitch invaders, is it that hard to understand?

I'm sure if the roles were reversed you'd feel salt had been rubbed in the wound by the pitch invaders.

    As an Ireland fan:

All the play-off loses: Belgium, Turkey and Holland. Apart from the Dutch game at Anfield, I think we were more than capable of winning the other two.

Losing to Spain in 2002: Ireland left that game behind them. I don't think we matched Italy in '90 or Holland in '94 but we should of beat Spain.

Wrecking qualification to Euro 2000 in Macedonia/Croatia: We'd done well in the big games but lost out to last minute equalisers that shouldn't of happened.

    As a Blackburn fan:

    Shearer/ Daglish leaving: Gutted

Relegation: Still can't believe the team we had that went down.

Jack Walker dieing: He made Blackburn a force in football and then had to watch them fall apart.

Graeme Souness being hired as manager: I knew it'd end in tears from the start. Never liked the man and was happy to see him go.

I think the 0-0 with Lichestien (sp) in June 1995 had to be the worst, the Dutch game in Anfield would never have happened if we beat Lichestien (sp) as we would have automatically qualified.

    Two reasons:

    1. I'm sick of Spearmio's continually questioning the right of people to support teams from outside the Republic, and so it was a wind up to show him that people continually question the bona fides of his own teams supporters. Maybe he should throw less stones when he's in his glasshouse?

    2. I don't consider pitch invasions to be a valid expression of one's support for a club, at the end of the day it hurts the club more than anything. Therefore, not proper fans, i.e. people who care about the club.

the sacking of bobby robson and the hiring of graemme souness: worst decision made my freddy shepard, it just doesnt make any sense in the slightest, graemme souness has ruined what booby robson had built for us, fcuking CúNT.

Hillsborough 1989 - waiting to see if my dad got back OK and seing how effected he was by it.

Yes, the unfortunate tragedies which resulted in deaths and injuries such as Heysel, Hillsborough, Bradford stadium (wasnt it), Ibrox crowd crush, Munich air crash and there are many more (an African team in an air crash), are undeniably the worst moments in the football world.

The OP was about pure footall events, so before the we roll-out too many worst moments in football, lets get a thread started on the Best Football moments, although we've had a few of those down through the years (threads I mean).

Concentrating on the worst moments too much is bad for us humans ..... was it Freud or Confucious or someone else less renowned that once said: Think Happy Thoughts

Yeah, that was depressing alright. I was living in Germany at the time and myself and a few mates decided to go into a Turkish bar to see if it was live on TV. We arrived a bit early ...2pm :D so we were well cut during the match but we were very much aware of the consequences of the result. We were getting news from home about the goings on in the England match. Also remember feeling gutted after losing to Holland in 88 Euro Championships thanks to Wim Kieft's spinning header with seven or so minutes left.

point 1 has nothing to do with me, i've never begrudged anyone their support of any club, i wish that everyone supported an EL club, even along side their other club, but its not my nor anybodies place to tell anyone who to support.

point 2, refere to your own clubs support with inverted commas also then, and personally i don't get too bothered by people going on the pitch in certain cases, ie, a big win against a rival, a cup win, a league win, (both as in final wins), survival, promotion etc.

i think EL fans are too quick to throw down the hooligan tag and "fans" nonsence to rovers, just because we've become the scape goats.

I'll condemn the Dutch Gold Brigade when they drag our club's name through the mud. They are a tiny, and not very vocal, minority of our support.

And my experience has been that your fans are the most likely to misbehave, more so than any other club in the EL that I have experience of. Once bitten, twice shy? That said, I still wouldn't tar every Rovers fan with the same brush, and I think the two reasons I've posted above cover that.

Wow talk about being obsessed. Its 9 years later and he still remembers it. You will find that most pitch invasions are spontaneous moments of joy.

And I dont mind people here "supporting" a foreign club once they support an Irish club first.

And you talk about glasshouses. In the last few years I have seen shels fans on the tolka pitch EVERY time we played there no matter what the result. But I suppose thats alright when the guy running the club is a convicted criminal. Grow up kid.

Back on topic forgot about Liechtenstein in 1995. Beautiful place but what an awful result.

Ireland 0-0 Liechtenstein (sp?) has to be one of the lowest points ever! Also conceding that last minute equaliser to Macedonia over there.

As a saints fan, it would have to be relegation last season on teh final day, especially after we had started so well against united.
