Which website says your line is ok? Smarts is only indicative that the line is on an exchange that Smart cover - eircom' site (or its resellers) will actually tell you if the line passes the test. With increased speeds line quality is coming under more pressure. So the actual speed you will get is difficult to predict in advance of connection.

If you have not got bb at the moment then connection to Smart should be relatively quick.

Moved from Eircom BB to Smart with downtime of 5 working days, despite being told it would be 10 to 15 working days! So I was pretty lucky. On Letterkenny exchange.

I'm in Donnycarney, on the Coolock exchange. Applied at the end of last October, and had it within a week. Apart from once when broadband was out overnight, I've had no other problems at all.

I got close enough to 6Mb during the Christmas upgrade, and I'm getting over 2.9 out of 3 now.

Also, I'd lost my password when I upgraded my modem firmware on a bank holiday Monday, posted on their support forum, and got a phone call 15 miutes later with the password - tech support is pretty good.

They did write claiming they'd lost my direct debit application (twice) and then after I paid my overdue bill by credit card I found they *had* applied the DD, so I'd paid twice, but they refunded my credit card within two days once I contacted them.

Overall, very happy with the service.

Checked both Eircom's and Smart's websites which both said line is suitable for BB.

On dial-up at present so will probably go with Smart.
