I would say its highly unlikely. Dual/Triband is a capability of the radio hardware of the phone not the software on it.

I may be corrected but Im not aware of any manufacturer who makes a tri/quad band phone then dileberately cripples it (presumably on a Teleco's request) down to dual band.

Theoretically speaking I suppose if the above was the case then flashing to another networks settings or the manufacturers generic firmware might do this in a similar way to the way to can remove Vodafone Live branding with a more generic firmware.

However I would be very surprised if any manufacturer has bothered to cripple a phone this way in the first place. I cant see (m)any advantages to doing it.

What make and network is your phone? Your best bet is to get a new phone, tri and quad ones are 10 a penny nowadays.

secret squirrel is correct. dual band/tri band is hardware build into the phone. it would be like unlocking a vcr to a dvd player

Some Motorola phones have quad band chipsets and are downgraded by firmware to triband (like the V300 and E398). In this case its easy to enable all the bands. However the likelihood of changing a dual band phone to triband is unlikely in my opinion.

That's what i thought! Have a crappy Sagem phone, however came across an Australian model phone identical to mine on ebay which was triband and it got me thinking. thanks anyway!
