Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Then why didn't you just bump the other thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

Perhaps you would have been best to start this thread in After Hours or the like, seeing as you haven't phrased it as a personal issue as such, and also seeing as you already have a thread on the same topic in PI. Why not ask a mod to move it? You might get a better response in another forum.

    You post in it....

Bump just means to add more posts to an old thread so it moves higher up in the list of topics. We're going to get a clip round the ear for off-topic posting if we keep this up. OP, I would advise you to ask one of the PI mods to move this thread for you, you'll more than likely get more comments elsewhere.

OK, I'm going to leave this thread open, but only helpful related comments from now on. I do feel that it is a PI as the OP was diagnosed with this disorder, so comments from anyone with such an experience will be appreciated

To the OP, I hope that this thread will be of more help to you, but in future do a search for your old posts, or for a topic, and post in the original thread.

    ntlbell helpful comments only please

So does everyone. It's when you need to get up and move around then sit down and move things and constantly readjust things is when you should be wondering about adhd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

I think his point was that rocking your foot doesn't mean you have adhd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Yes that was his point exactly, and to be honest im not 100% sure that i have it , i used to get counselling and she recommend i see a GP about it and then he refered me to shrink... but i was just using that as an example because she said she sometimes gets very fidgety.

It's great to hear that about your school. I know of plenty of others though where this isn't the case.

Unfortunately there's also still terrible assistance in quite a lot of secondary schools and colleges, which is a disgrace considering the generation going through secondary school/early college now is the first to really have been diagnosed properly and have the disorder taken seriously. So with it being so prevalent as a learning disability, you would hope that more would be being done to help those who are really in need right now.

Aye, I think it's safe to say your students are probably quite lucky ;) Well, not lucky really cos they're only getting what they deserve, but lucky compared to some other students who still aren't.

Does anyone know what percentage of ADHD is incorrectly diagnosed? Is it a case of someone misbehaving or having learning difficulties and being "diagnosed" as having ADHD?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

It often is, but without regular reviews of the individual case such a mistake more often than not goes unnoticed. However, in a case where this has happened, the "ADHD" will usually wear off by adolescence (assuming it isn't another longer-lasting learning disability that has been mistaken for ADHD), by which time it will be apparent that the diagnosed person is no longer suffering from the disorder.

In the case of somebody who has already reached adolescence, it is not uncommon for other learning disabilities coupled with a general inability to fit in in a school environment to be mistaken for ADHD.

Note: It's not often that somebody who has only just begun to develop symtoms (for example, a teenager who is merely misbehaving/craving attention) will be diagnosed as having ADHD, as this particular disorder is usually present from very early childhood, and so symptoms will have been evident for years beforehand. So to answer a part of your question, it is not very likely that a misbehaving teenager, for example, will be able to be incorrectly diagnosed, at least not by a professional who specialises in ADHD.
