Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    A Dying Pig finds Happiness
Adapted from Joyful path of Good Fortune (p208)

There is a story of a terrified pig who was being chased through the forest by a hunter. The pig was so tired that as it reached a clearing in the trees, it lay down to die.

In the clearing was a large holy stupa. The pig had been very unhappy but just through seeing the stupa it's mind was blessed by Buddha and so the pig died with a peaceful mind. Because of this the pig was reborn in a heavenly land and it's next life was much happier than it's life as a pig.
Buddhas can make things appear through the force of their miracle powers.

    Fly Floats Around Stupa
Adapted from Joyful path of Good Fortune (p235)

At the time of Buddha lived Shri Datta who had harmed many people in cruel ways and done many bad things, such as offering poisonous food to Buddha. When he grew old Shri Datta became interested in Dharma and asked Buddha to ordain him as a monk. It is said that if someone is to become ordained they must have at least some virtuous seeds from past positive actions that are a cause of liberation - the state of never ending inner peace. Followers of Buddha with miracle powers could not find a single virtuous seed that is a cause of liberation from Shri datta's past and so they said, 'This Shri datta is not fit to be a monk because he does not have even the slightest virtuous seed that is a cause of liberation.' But they could not see the subtle seeds that only Buddhas have the power to see. When Buddha looked he saw a tiny seed for virtue in Shri datta's dark mind. He told his followers, 'Many many lifetimes ago Shri Datta was a fly who landed on an animal's turd that was floating in the water around the bottom of a Stupa. Unknowingly the fly made a circumambulation of the stupa! Since this action was virtuous it left a tiny seed of goodness in Shri Datta's mind so he is now able to reach liberation.' Buddha then ordained him as a result Shri Datta's virtuous seeds grew and he reached liberation in that lifetime.
