I've dealt with the girl a little. I've had her insult and sneer at something that I worked really hard on and that meant a lot to me in a breath, then turn around and ask me to help her in the next. I've seen her not contact someone who was waiting for her in order to help her with her campaign, then come along six hours later, not having contacted them, and as she apologised ask for more help in the SAME breath. I do not like or trust the girl. I'm entitled to my opinion. It's not unfounded or based on propaganda, but on my experiences with the girl. So Zap, there are a number of different kinds of bias.

Red Alert - I'm with you on that one!

Obviously you know the story with the other four, as it is currently (pending action from the Redmond camp) Holly won Ents by one vote.

Might I interest you in a slice of Socialism, good sir?

It's Low in Bollocksology, and furthermore costs a mere fraction of this sh*t...

Ah yes socialism, bastion of realism... :p

I'm a Commerce student... Too cynical to be a Socialist, though I've read the Manifesto and all that jazz... Economies require greed to work, and so on so forth...

But weak-willed centre-left liberalism ftw! So long as no-one loses... :p

Don't worry Elisa, I'm not going to battle you for the position. I'm just making the point that Zap may be biased towards her, from his experiences with her, as I am biased against her from mine. Everyone's a little bit biased about most things Besides, I'm not complaining about her in her Union role (the last thing I ever thought I'd do would be cheer Dave Redmond on, but Piggy, if you're out there, appeal!) I'm complaining about her inaction or attitudes that lead me to think she couldn't do her job in the Union to the standard that it should be done.

Anyway, regardless of whether Holly or Redmond get it in the end, plenty of people are of the opinion that the best people for the job didn't get it... I've even heard ex-candidates say that their opposition were the best person for the job. Mad that, eh?

Yeah, it's mad how things go on elections.

I was up for Enda myself (in Ents), but anyway, O'Duinn had by far the most experience and came last. True he didn't do loads of addressing, but he wasn't the only one. He certainly wasn't the worst man for the job.

I was a brian Canny girl myself-seriously he would have done a great job.Its tough to start a society and bring it from nothing to a big society in ayear and he really did that with retro soc.But out of Holly and Enda I think I would have more confidence in Enda.Him and the other Enda (Duffy) going for pres looked really alike and spoke the same too-that sorta freaked me out a bit!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

Panda, credit where credit is due here! I have great time for Canny, but he wasn't alone in setting up RetroSoc, there were four co-Auditors in its first year, he kept it on for this year on his own. It's not fair that Shane and the others get overlooked on this!

*edit* I've been informed that there were, in fact two co-Auditors of RetroSoc, neither of which were Brian Canny. However, as is the nature of societies, roles get spread out. Brian was actually PRO. My apologies to all who may have been offended by the above misinformation. */edit*

so when are they planning on having a result?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

Morgan was bringing three disputed ballot papers to the Legal Advisor in town today to be adjudicated on; if desired he's agreed to do continuous recounts (starting next Wednesday) until he gets two consecutive identical results.

    Expect word in about October.

wish i had signed up to count, id be fcuking minted now!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

The latest on this: The IAB met this morning to consider Dave Redmond's request for a recount after the last one (which left Holly ahead by 1); a recount has been granted and this time the policy will be to try and give the benefit of the doubt as regards questionable papers (in terms of validity, etc).

    Still, like I said:

Not a clue, you'll probably want to talk to James about that.

Not only is it not nice, but in fact it's completely wrong.

If you want to head to http://www.ucdsu.net/newswire.php there's an Excel spreadsheet with the full, comprehensive (and seemingly final) results. People might remember that it seemed before, that recounts would be continuous until two identical consecutive tallies resulted. On the 'Ents Recounts' tab, the 3rd and 4th recounts are identical, and both read
    Irvine 1582
    Redmond 1578.

Given that on the homepage Morgan has declared Holly the winner, and that when there's two identical and consecutive results it's very difficult to claim human error and demand a recount, I guess it looks like Holly Irvine is your duly elected Ents Officer for 2006/07, folks.
