Can anyone help please with a translation of the following phrase please?

"nuair a chríonas an tslat ní bhíonn uirthitlacht mar a bíos ar na crannaibh óga"

A French friend is reading a book i nGaelige and she came across this phrase.

Tá mé ag lorg mo chuid Gaelige a dúl i neart freisin.

It looks non-standard, maybe Connemara dialect?

It appears to be a variation of one of the similar seanfhocail/proverbs

"Nuair a chruann an tslat is deacair í a lúbadh"

When the rod gets hard (with age) it's difficult to bend it. i.e. when we get old, we get set in our ways. Or "you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

    or.

"Nuair a chruaíonn an tslat is deacair í a sníomh ina gad."

When the rod hardens, it's difficult to weave into a withy (rope)

"nuair a chríonas an tslat ní bhíonn uirthitlacht mar a bíos ar na crannaibh óga"

    maybe a more standard form

"Nuair a chríonann an tslat ni bhíonn .....?... mar a bhíonn ar na crainn óga"

When the rod ages it doesn't have the (flexibility?) as one on the young trees.

Go raibh maith agat a Mhíshásta. Tá mé tar eis an aistriúchán a seoladh go dtí an Fhrainc.

Tá cúpla frása eile agam ón Fhrainc:

"Go dtóga drochaicídeacha na bliana leath a bhfuil de mhná sa tír
    amach as m'amharc".

Is é galar atá i gceist anseo?

"Ach b'fhéidir nár bheag mo chuidiúsa aige".

    Go raibh maith agat

"Go dtóga drochaicídeacha na bliana leath a bhfuil de mhná sa tír

May the worst affliction of the year clear half of the women in the country out of my sight.
