Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
I know this is a strange post, but I found this old annual litterally about half an hour ago. I remember getting this as a present in 1992, the front cover has Packie Bonner, Niall Quinn and Denis Irwin playing agaisnt Wales in Feb'92 in the RDS(my 1st international!). I kinda remember seeing something about this in the Sunday World when it was printed, saying it actually wasnt an official FAI book, and Donnie Butler(FAI Marketing manager's) name was forged. It does say Copyright FAI on it, just wondering if anyone else remembers this. I did however read one article called "To Play for Ireland". Steve Staunton take note!!!

It doesnt appear to be to officail, heres a few lines

"After Shay Brennan many more non-irish born players began to declare for Ireland, perhaps they realized that they would not get into the England squad. Also being an international player could only enhance thier career prospects at club level"

"It soon became apparent that most of the players available to Ireland were not born in the country at all. Some people think it has become a bit of a farce and other countries have complained about Ireland's dependce on the ruling, but it is within the rules."

Seems pretty funny to me. Anyone any ideas

    Cheers
    Dave

I actually have that annual but I couldn't tell you if it was an official or not.

iirc at the time the FAI would bring out a 'yearbook' which would give a roundup of the the domestic and international goings-on for that year and this was probably consider more 'their annual'.

Was that Ireland -v- Wales game definitely in the RDS? I thought it was at Tolka, although that may have been another Ireland-Wales game. It was my first international too, I remember David O'Leary swallowing his tongue. I think we won 2-1, although maybe we lost 2-1...

We played Wales at the RDS in 1992 and lost 1-0. We played at Tolka in 93 and won 2-1.

Interestingly we've played Wales at : Dalymount, Tolka, Lansdowne and the RDS so it seems only fitting they should be the first team to play us as Croker.
