Question: if your life, well-being and preservation of your basic human rights depended on US "assurances", how would you rate your chances?

Breaking News, Wednesday March 1, 2006

[Dermot] Ahern said "[...] assurances the Government has received from the United States relate to a specific matter of fact."
"They state categorically that prisoners have not been, nor would they be, transferred through Irish territory without the express permission of the Irish authorities."
"It has been made clear by the Government that, in conformity with the relevant domestic and international law, permission would not be granted for the transit of an aircraft participating in an extraordinary rendition operation or for any other unlawful act."

The Guardian, Tuesday March 7, 2006
    http://politics.guardian.co.uk/foreignaffairs/story/0,,1725223,00.html

After months of refusing to answer questions from MPs or the media, [the government] disclosed that two aircraft known to have been chartered by the CIA landed 14 times at RAF Northholt, west London, and RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire between October 2003 and May 2004.
[Michael Moore, the Liberal Democrat's new foreign affairs spokesman] added: "These are disturbing revelations. Were these rendition flights or not? Ministers must urgently obtain answers from the US government."

    Flight details
    N313P [...] Oct 29. [2003] Departed to Shannon, 17.45. [...]
    N379P [...] Departed to Shannon, Jan 18 [20]03 [...]
    N8068V [...] Departed to Shannon, 08:00, May 18 [2004].

I can't understand why a rendition flight heading east from Britain would fly to Shannon, so I'm not sure what the issue is here.

    Should we keep looking? Yes.

Is this evidence of wrong-doing or lies? No.
