I still have the fear in god in me for getting this done, its getting me down so much I'm am just not able to go back to the doctor, i went a couple of months ago and he automatically said a circ which freaked me out a little. I know i need it done. I'm 29 and need to have this done, its holding me back so much. I too have the shower/grower thing and curious that if I get cut and stiched that I won't grow as much. I know I might sound a bit daft but just been honest here lads. Would like to know others experience, Just need to get the guts to go and get it done as this phimosis is ruining my life physically and mentally. Will not have a proper pain free sexlife until I get sorted. And the thoughts of needles/knifes freaks me out. If only I can get over that fear, I'd go for it.

    Would appreciate any advice.

    Cheers

    Afternoon all

    Day Ten

I lost my first stitch this morning. I noticed that it wasn't really doing anything and seemed to be isolated in the middle of a bit of skin so I snipped it with some scissors and it came out totally painlessly. Hurrah!

The infection on the head has alkmost totally dried up thanks to the salt water and fucidin ointment but it's still quite tender where the infection was - so I'm back to a dry gauze lining my jocks to keep it all in place. The infection was a bit of a setback but I think it only delayed the recovery by a few days. I reckon I'm on about Day Seven in comparison to other peoples' recovery stories. The actual cut is doing really well indeed. The stitches are very close to the head and all in all it looks OK.

Now that the swelling has almost totally gone, the old fella looks much smaller than it did, and I think it's even slightly smaller than before the operation, although this can't really be the case.

it won't have any effect on the size. It's not your penis that's being cut, just your foreskin. If you cut your sleeves off, your arms are the same length, right?

A fine analogy, tbh and a curious mental image!

Thats one way of looking at it TBH. I just thought maybe that the stiches will restrict it in size when erect. I mean if they cut the bad skin away and stich it up when flaccid, does it have any effect on penis size when erect. In other words, does erections still reach the same size after the cut.

I'm going back to see my doctor soon. I don't have much faith in him to be honest (he wasnt very helpful the last time, I wanted a few questions answered he told me to discuss with surgoen.* He told me the last time there is a year long wait to see an urologist and that a General Surgeon can perfom the operation. I guess I may go with that.

I got circumcised when i was two months old(18 now) and when my consultant told me about it when i was fifteen he said my sexual pleasures would be non-existent...and god was he right,i can get an erection no bother but i barely feel a thing although when i cum the pleasure is 100 times better...my fiance says while we are doing it my face looks as dull as dishwater unlike her previous sexual partner who looked very pleased and made the odd noise as she says(i just make a quiet awh noise when i orgasm),however she says i put more effort into doing it...she says i probably do that to get the most pleasure out of it...she's right about that because when i dont put much effort at all into it i feel absolutly nothing at all...last but not least i was at my gp's the other day and i was talking to her about it and she told me about a tablet i could take(i thought she was going to say viagra)i was wrong about the viagra, she prescribed me with one tablet and told me to see how it went,i took it at around 8 tonight and me and the fiance went into the room at around 11,ya have to wait 3 hours,.and oh my god my talalah was so sensitive i nearly roared my apartment down!!!thats it.....

Hi Jim and good morning all

    Two Weeks Later

I can't believe it has been two weeks. Those first few days went really slowly and it was pretty dull, sitting around waiting for the sensitivity and pain to go, but once the healing process kicks in, things happen very fast.

All but one of my stitches is out. The remaining one is still a little tender so I'll leave it for another day or so. The scarline is pretty much totally healed and I'll start using some vitamin E cream on it, just to speed up the rest of the process.

The glans, which became infected with nasty gungy stuff has healed nicely thanks to the antibiotic cream, but it's still tender where the skin is healing from that. I'm still using a small amount of fucidin on it, just to ensure the infection is totally gone. That'll take a day or two, as per the GP's instructions.

The rest of the head is desensitising nicely and every day is a bit better than the previous day. I think it's the small things you notice - I had to run for a bus yesterday and last week that would have been unimaginable.

    Back to work on Monday:(

Good to read that things are going ok, Rolf.

I'm going to book an appointment (consultation) at my local clinic in the next month or so.

You should book it as soon as you can because it might take a few months to actually see the consultant.

All is well here. It's healing really nicely and the swelling is already going down, which makes it all look a bit more normal.

It has been a really easy, if sometimes boring, process.

My only regret is not doing it years ago.

Great work on the posts and diary updates, am sure it's priceless info for anyone contemplating what must be a daunting experience combined with the usual male taboo/stigma of not talking about our bits.

And great to read you're now walking like John Wayne again but for the right reasons this time... ;)

I'm pleased someone has been reading them. I was really annoyed at the lack of after care/advice from my surgeon so this thread has been a lifesaver for me. I'm happy to pass on my experiences.

Hi Rolf. How you getting on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 102 ✭✭RolfHarris

    Hey Jim

    Hello all

There's nothing to report. I'm totally healed, the swelling is going down day by day and the scar is coming along nicely thanks to vitamin E cream and bio-oil.

It's hard to think back only three weeks ago when it was so sensitive that I couldn't believe I'd ever be able to get dressed, but I'm sitting in the office wearing normal clothes and don't give it a second thought.

It's fascinating to watch the speed of recovery. Literally every day makes a difference.

How are you getting on? Have you made an appointment yet?

Does anyone else have anything to report?

getting done next Tuesday in Tallaght by Dr.Flynn . i'm brickin it already . i have been waiting about 18 months and it has been adjourned 3 times I'm just hoping its not going to be changed this time around as I've been waiting long enough . any words of wisdom guys? they told me not to smoke or drink for 3 days before i get the operation .

  • Registered Users Posts: 102 ✭✭RolfHarris

    any words of wisdom guys?

The best advice is to read the thread in its entirety. You'll pick up loads of good tips.

My best advice is to invest in some decent, tight boxers. You'll come to rely on them a lot.

For the first few days, keep the old fella exposed. If possible, just wear a t-shirt, or rest your meat&two veg over the waistband of a pair of PJ or tracksuit bottoms. It'll help keep everything clean and dry. At night, use gauze and vaseline, held with tape, and some tight boxers.

Everyone heals at a different pace, and yeah, the first few days seem very boring because you think that it'll never heal. Then - BAM - a lot happens very, very quickly.

How much time off work do you have? Do you live with anyone? If not, make sure you have enough food for a few days. You won't feel like walking to the shops. And get some decent DVD box-sets. You'll be spending a lot of time on the sofa.

I took Berocca and a vitamin E capsule every day. Not sure if they did much good, but getting lots of vitamins can't do the healing process any harm.

Take it easy, and if you can, post a diary here every day. I know there are a lot of guys lurking on here who could do with the support.

In a few short weeks, it'll all be over!

thanks. no i live with 7 other people . im unemployed so i've plenty of time on my hands . yes ill try my best to write a diary wont have much else to do now will i. what is that gauze stuff?

Gauze is like a thin woven cotton bandage. You can buy it from your local pharmacist in sheets or a roll. For the first few nights, smear some vaseline on it, and wrap it around your penis, held in place with some micropore tape - your pharmacist will help you out.

I used that at night then in the morning removed it - very carefully, using a beaker of warm salt water to soak it off. If there is any dry blood you may need to really soak it. Once it is removed, use some more warm salt water for a few minutes, leave it dry and exposed all day, re-wrapping it at night. After a few days you'll be able to use the gauze without the need for vaseline, but take it as slow as you need.

    Gauze:

Well after reading this thread over and over, I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment with a GP.

Almost never did, it took me about calls just to get through to one!!, you can imagine my enthusiasm dwindling with each call!!

So yeah, app. not until Friday so I have a few lovely days to think about it. So I'm leaving it up to you good folk to ease my mind:D

Do you need a medical reason to have it done? Can you get it done for personal reasons?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

I would say so. Although I'd imagine you'd have to pay for the procedure.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

I thought as much. I wouldn't have a problem paying.

I was wondering is there a list of surgeons that will do it for personal as opposed to medical reasons? I couldn't see a GP being sympathetic to a non medical reason.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

I don't know, maybe it would be a cosmetic surgeon that would do it?

I suppose, if in your position, the first thing I would do is call a random urologist (no point in paying to see a GP) and just ask if they perform the procedure for cosmetic reasons? and if not, who would?

Hi Bond-007. There is a private circumcision clinic just north of London. They deal with medical, religious, personal et al. I could send you a link, if you want?

    hey bryner

I went to tallaght myself. Also with dr flynn. Was very happy with the staff in Tallaght. They really do put you at ease. Dont be afraid to ask any questions if you have any conerns before u leave.

    Best of luck.

p.s cheers for all other posters on this thread who put me at ease and helped me make my decision to go ahead with op. There is a lot of crap on the internet about circumcision, but would reccomend anyone to read through this thread form start to finish - lots of great advice

    byrner

I can only speak from my own experience, but I had to be there at 10am, and was in the operating theatre at about mid-day. I guess it depends on the running order of the theatre, but take a newspaper or a book to read, because there might be a bit of sitting around.

    How are you getting home?

You'll be absolutely fine. It is quite weird thinking about what the operation involves, but you won't remember a thing. They'll give you an injection and - Literally - the next thing you know you'll be in bed, waking up!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

Hi byrner88, I know you're all drugged up at this stage, but when you come back around, I was just wondering how long you were waiting for to be seen in Tallaght, and then for the actual procedure itself?

I'm in Tallaght so I can only presume that that's where I'll be referred to. Would love to get all this done this side of xmas!!

i doubt you will even be seen by the consultant before Christmas i waited for 11 months to see the consultant and then another 6 months to get the operation done. my operation was put back twice between them 6months i suppose if you go private it will me much quicker

right lads got the operation done this morning was in at half 7 for registration then brought in at 8 to get my gown and disposable knickers ha and got some define , not the tablet the suppository(shove it up your arse) . then a bit of waiting around to get the anesthetic got hooked up on the drip. woke up then about an hour later and asked the nurse when i was getting the operation done she said it was all done . went back and got some toast and oj then had a nap before they kept waking me up to check my blood pressure a few times. im feeling grand now but the drugs will wear off.

doing that now . the bandage came off while i was asleep last night and it was really sore this morning . its that bad i cant put anything near it .

will the sensitivity just go or will it need to be rubbing off clothes or anything for it to go numb as everyone else is saying?

it'll go as the swelling goes down, and don't worry - there's a difference between it being numb, and it not being sensitive.

yeah i suppose mine is very sensitive at the moment . how will this change do u think?

the best way I can describe it is, it's like your thumb. While your hand is hanging down by your side, you don't feel your thumb, but if you bang it or touch it, you'll know it's there. You know what I mean? :) It's not that it goes numb, but it deffo doesn't feel like it feels for you now.
