Wow 85 pages on circumcision

I had the job done when I was four and I was only vaguely aware that something had changed down there until I was eleven or so :D

    Big deal?
I got it done when was less than a month old.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,382 ✭✭✭Duffy the Vampire Slayer

Strangely I was born in America so you'd think I'd have gotten it done there, but it was actually in Ireland after my family moved back here.

I had my foreskin excised when I was about one year old - that was in 1948. My parents waited until the start of the UK National Health Service so that it could be done for free.
Pretty well always disliked being different and having a scar.

EDIT : I should have mentioned that there was no medical problem with my foreskin. My parents wanted me to look like the UK royals. Apparently, at that time it was thought that they had their sons circumcised.

yes of course you will lose some sensitivity, thats the trade off. but dont decide how much has been lost until 3-4 months at least, it takes a long time for everything to adjust and permanently re-adjust. Hopefully you wont lose too much feeling in the long run, but you will lose some, you must live with that.

ok, first of all this thread has been a godsend to both of us - for him before the op, and for me in terms of understanding the whole thing better and what he must be going through... BUT -

he had a full circ last thursday, woke up on friday with no pain or swelling and went to work. all grand until monday when he said the swelling and pain was getting too much so he went to our GP, who gave him two different anti-biotics, painkillers and ibuprofen. they worked on monday evening, and yesterday, but today has been a dreadful day. he can't walk, sit, or stand. i'm not looking for medical advice, more re-assurance i suppose - should i push him to go back to the doc or what? he's reluctant at the moment and just wants to wait it out, but is a bit down about the whole thing. i think the wound might be infected, has anyone else experienced this and how long did it take to get over the worst? i want to do everything i can to help him!

Just gotten a second opinion on my Phimosis from another urologist, this time it was an Irish guy.
Contrary to what the first guy told me (he was 100% sure i should get a full Circumcision), the Irish Urologist says i should get a dorsal slit procedure.

Now im fairly confused , I guess if i get the dorsal and it didnt work out i could get the full circum , I dont want to be prejudice but i wonder if some foreign urologists could be biased towards performing the full circums.

Anyone any experiences with dorsal slit ?
Only really looking for opinions on guys who have personal experience on this,
    Cheers

I have been putting of seeing a doctor about this for years. Out of total fear.

I believe my foreskin is far to tight. It doesn't retract back over the head at all. I didn't realise this wasn't right for years. Then I thought something was wrong with me or that I was somehow dis-formed.

I have avoided sex because of it, as I know it would be uncomfortable. Even putting a condom on is really uncomfotable. The anxiety around this has ruined potential relationships and sex etc.

It has even taking me a long time to post in this thread as anything relating to that part of me makes me squirm.

Really not sure what to do, I can't compare it to another penis to be sure! That would be kinda weird asking a guy to compare thingies!!

    Hi all,

I had the procedure done a few weeks ago after reading up on this thread. But it was a custom job - i had a frenuloplasty and preputioplasty.

    So far so good.....

I took a while for the swelling to settle down. Yes morning wood was a problem since myself and the missus couldn't do much in the mean time but now we are back in action!

Yes, there is a bit of tightness but my doc recommended some stretching still to get the rest of my foreskin back to normal. When flacid there is a tiny bit of waistband due to the scarring if i pull back my foreskin - which is heeling up nicely - but when erect, it can be a bit tender, but it's getting more and more comfortable as time goes on.

After the operation at first, when erect, i couldn't pull back my foreskin due to the tenderness of the skin, now i can get it half way down the head of my penis, and its getting better.

I havn't lost any sensation since the op as well. if more, the back part of my penis, where i had the frenuloplasty is actually a bit more sensitve and enjoyable!

To anyone getting it done, get as many opinions as you can. I got 2 opinions and went with the 2nd one after the first guy wanted to do a full circ - i wanted to keep as much of my foreskin as possible. While it maybe good for some, its not for others.

As other people as said in this thread, ask ask ask !!!!

I hope that you go and see your GP about this. Please do something about it. That's what this tread is all about. Information and support.

    Best of luck!

I'd say just head to the doc first thing tomorrow and ask him. The more you think about it the less likely you will do it. Trust me, once you make the first step the rest is easy peasy portuguesey :)

Getting the chop this Thursday. Medically necessary frenulum modification and full circ. I'm absolutley bricking it. But I suppose it will be fine in the long run. It's just the thoughts of the pain and discomfort :(

Well that put me off my lunch!!

It looks like the skin should completely retract over the head while erect! Mine doesn't! :(

I am scared stiff to be honest! I have left it so long I fear ridicule from the doctor! I am not a kid or a teen anymore!

I know, but its something I don't want to discuss with family! I am back living in the family home now and going for an op which I assume would be over night and being out of work/action for a week or so would make things awkward!

God the thought of showing the doc my banana and kiwi fruits scare the hell out of me! It would shrivel up to nothing!

I GUARANTEE ye have nothing that any doctor/urologist have not seen before.

How would fancy being a 14 year old boy,in the rages of puberty and getting a testicular torsion.

Lying in a hospital bed with my giblets on show to a bunch of pretty student nurses and doctors.

After that dropping trou for my GP is a piece of piss!

    :pac:

On a serious note though,I think ridicule from a doctor is the last thing either of you will have to concern yourselves with.

    It's simple - Confidence.

The man is happy since he had something done about it and the results were great!

Once you at least, get a GP or a specialist to have a look at you then its plain sailing!

First and foremost don't feel any ridicule!

I'm 32 and i had this done about 6 weeks ago. Age has little or nothing to do with it. Your doctor should certify you as medically sound to go through with this after examining you. It's a day procedure.

I was a 8 or 9 but i opted to keep most of my foreskin for sensitivity reasons. so i'm still in the same category but still in the heeling proccess. I had part of it removed as it was tearing whenever i was doing the bold thang.....

In the index i posted up, if you are a 1 or 2, its a full circ by the looks of it.

If you do get it done - there's one guy who posted that he's getting it done tomorrow - best of luck. When you get something like this done - DO NOTHING for the best part of a week. Daytime tv is crap so i recommend catching up on a tv series boxset that you've missed!

Thats great! If you don't mind me asking, what is the difference before and after? What kind of discomfort were you feeling etc

    Thanks

The foreskin could not retract and after a few minutes it would really hurt unless i had a condom on. I can confirm that there is a really thin line between pleasure and pain:(

But now there is no pain:) and the OH is almost as pleased with the result as i am;).

If you think you have a problem, guys, go to a doctor. Dont wait or worry. There is nothing in your jocks that they havent seen a hundred times before. Just go and make an appointment and, believe me, just going will take a weight off your shoulders. I was concerned for years before going but i found this thread last november and finally said screw it im going to do it.

All i can say guys is what goes on in your head about going to the doctor is a million times different than what happens when you do. You wont get an erection but if you do it will show up any problem you have. And if you dont then they can still make a diagnosis. Either you have a problem, which can be sorted or you dont which is a weight off your shoulders.

I just cant recommend going enough. Just do it;). You wont regret it

    Thanks guys!

I find discussing this extremely uncomfortable. The idea makes me squirm! I don't like the top being touched at all.

On my limited experience with sex I found that the skin would come about half way back over the head and get stuck there making things uncomfortable. It may stay like that for a while afterwards which meant I could feel it rubbing against boxers etc and it was uncomfortable. I guess thats because it wasn't used to being exposed.

I always found condoms uncomfortable for the similar reason. Putting it on would pull the skin back, which would tighten it as it only came halfway back. That pretty much ended the romance.

Is this normal or not? :(

    Thanks

I don't know what the other bloke was going through in my initial comment in the first place but from my own experience my frenulum breve - aka the banjo string - was tearing every time i was having sex so i got something done about it.

I also had a preputioplasty - a type of phimosis where when i was erect, i would have a little waistband and tightening around the middle part of my penis. The skin would break and it made having sex and masturbating a bit uncomfortable. Not to mention the skin looking inflamed and / or broken. My doctor removed part of the problem area of the skin and stitched me up. I still have a bit of a waistband but this is because of scarring which is loosening up every time i do something......

its still a bit tender but i'm out of surgery a about 7 weeks now i think. i'm still healing up but healing up nicely. I'm back in action about 3 or 4 weeks now but myself and my partner are still a tad cautious in what we do.
