My circumcision was done yesterday, about a month after I first went to the doctor.

The procedure itself was a complete breeze carried out under general anesthetic. 26 hours later, there is no real pain, just discomfort from the glans rubbing against the underwear.

The next couple of days is what I'm most worried about, in terms of removing the bandage and washing it although the positive stories in this thread has made this process much easier so far.

this is definitely something I could not get done,i did have a tight foreskin for years and it hurt me during intercourse, but one day the banjo string snapped, there was bloody everywhere at first, then after a few days it started healing and the days of a tight foreskin for me are gone thank god, couldnt imagine having a fully exposed glands, seen a friend of mine who got it done a few years back, the man could not walk properly (understandably) for a good 2 weeks,i think its more a fear factor than anything else.

Just take it easy and you'll be fine.
Slightly OT but few guys have said this, I found myself very constipated afterwards because of the anaesthetic and that was just as hard to deal with

i had similar problems when i was a kid. never really noticed until i hit about 10 or 11 and finally found out what the thing was for and started playing with it, but then found that the foreskin was extremely tight and i couldn't pull it back to get the opening any further than about the size of a pea, so i did what any self respecting young boy would do and just played with it incessantly, stretching it a little more each day until i could get it all the way back and kept at it and it was completely normal by the time i was in my mid-teens.

i now recognise the same problem with my 2 year old son, but i plan on (delicately) encouraging him to follow the same path so he can hopefully avoid having a circumcision done, or wait until he is old enough to make the decision for himself.

with the bandage, sit in a bath and take time!. It'll shock you a bit at first. Just take it easy for a few days, couch/boxset and let the lad hang out as much as possible. Make sure you bathe it 2 or 3 times a day in salt water - it's soothing and it encourages healing/prevents infection.

The first week after any operation is rough, however within 2 weeks you'll barely remember it.

By week 3 i was at the beach with family and playing with my nephews in the water. The recovery after the first week is pretty quick - and as soon as the stitches start coming out, you won't know yourself

For everyone here who got the chop, did the corona take longer to desensitize than the rest of the glans?

I'm uncut, used to suffer from phimosis but at the moment I'm trying to desensitize the entire head by keeping the foreskin retracted with some tight bandages. After a few days most of the pain/sensitivity has gone away but I still feel a jolt of pain when I touch the corona.

The corona is the sort of ridge thing at the base of the penis head.

    Hello all,

I had a circumcision on Monday, was kept in over night as I couldn't urinate and felt quite nauseous and dizzy from the anesthetic afterwards. Was able to urinate that evening though.

Was told to bathe in plan water in a bath after 48 hours which I did. Although after removing it I nearly blacked out and ending up throwing up! Not sure if it was the heat of the bath or blood pressure suddenly dropping or something as the little man didn't look too bad, good bit of dried in blood and some fresh stuff but nothing too bad other than that.

I have been prescribed antibiotics and two types of painkillers. I have to take the antibiotics 3 times a day for 3 days.

Had a bit of fresh bleeding today though, under the head, where the frenulum was, and it looks quite bad around that area....the top half looks fine...would it be normal for that area to bleed 3 days after procedure does anyone know?

I've just been lazing around, although its become all consuming thinking about it and worrying if it is not healing correctly.

I've actually made an appointment with the Doctor for tomorrow to get an opinion on the healing as I would rather be safe than sorry, maybe I've overreacting but then again you only have one mickey and I'd rather keep it in good working order!

We'll see what the Doctor says tomorrow.

Like other posters here I suffered from a very tight foreskin, things came to a head so to in Feb '13, was seeing a lady and anytime she went near the little one I would flinch.....I always though women were just particularly rough when handling the goods and had got their techniques straight off a porn movie but it seems to have been my experience with every women. I ran it by mates but I seemed to be always rattling on about it, appears it was the tight foreskin all along as opposed to the ladies 'techniques'.

Feb '13 was the last time I was involved in any 'intimacy', and I kind of put it to the back of my mind, in the post, 4 or 5 years ago it had got very inflamed and I had infections and thrush, I tried to creams and lotions on the foreskin but it never loosened up, I thought it would improve over time but in fact it probably got worse.

Anyway, I kind of put it to the back of my mind and was getting on with life, not having had any monkey business since '13 helped obviously but it wasn't a great long term strategy but I was keeping busy and not particularly missing it as it was always so painful, even putting a condom on was excruciating, the grimaces and faces I pulled whilst getting some hand relief on one occasion probably gave the impression I was in the throes of ecstasy but the opposite was true, I was actually grimacing with pain!!!!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the thrush like symptoms presented themselves in April of this year, was when it was quite warm and I was working out a lot, due to not been able to clean under the foreskin properly it was getting itchy and unpleasant. Went to the Doc and said I thought I had thrush, he had a look, said it was smegma and I gave him the low down, he suggested and circumcision and put me in contact with a consultant urology surgeon. Saw him about 2/3 weeks later and he had a look, advised there was scarring because of it and actually brought up about a frenuloplasty as he said my was too short and it was causing the strain, he felt this wouldn't cure the problem though and he felt I'd probably be back to get the full thing done, I asked him his honest and medical opinion and in his experience what he would recommend, he said full circumcision, so I weighed up all the pro's and con's and decided to go with it.

That was about a month ago and had it Monday, went private as I have VHI.

The head is uber sensitive though and anytime it touches anything it is like getting an electric shock, not pleasant and I hope it desensitises soon!

I came across this thread after the procedure so decided to join today and post my own experience, very informative reading here and it has been a great help.

Anyway I'm off to Doc tomorrow, will post and let everyone know how it goes!

First off I think your right to see a Doctor about the bleeding, but if its only a small amount I wouldn't worry too much. Having said that the bleeding increases the chances of infection getting in and thats what you want to avoid.
Id say the feeling you were about to pass out was down to your blood pressure falling from the intense pain but thats nothing to worry about.

How long does the head generally take to de-sensitize after the op? I mean fully desensitize to the point u can poke it and it causes no pain at all?

    3 weeks or so?

I've always had phimosis until recently but now that I can retract the foreskin behind the head, I've taped it there with some compression bandages and laces. I'm going to leave it like this until the head is no longer painful to touch.

Well, went to Doc today. Feeling a bit better now.

He did extend the prescription for the antibiotics for the next 3 days and prescribed me an antiseptic powder/talc to apply too to help it heal/dry it out. He decided it was best not to rebandage it.

Doesn't seem to have bled today which I'm delighted about, so please God it progresses from here!

No don't dress the wound because you want to let it breathe to help it heal and stop any infection. Apply the powder for a week or so and wash your hands really well after, that's so important.

Yep...there's a reason they say to take the bandage off...the lad needs a bit of air to heal properly. There will be a bit of blood especially from the stitch line, but it's to be expected.

    Thanks for info!

No bleeding last night, delighted about that. Woke up several times during night with erections which sting.

Had plain bath today as usual and applied antiseptic powder.

Head very sensitive still, seems to be progress in healing though, which is good. Feeling a bit more upbeat.

it's really crazy how many erections you get in the night - i had no idea

The sensitivity takes a while to go, but you may have seen through out the thread that healing seems to take forever the first week, but then by week 2 and 3 you're pretty much back to normal and the healing is really quick

  • Registered Users Posts: 423 ✭✭CM24

Can you speed up the de-sensitizing process by rubbing the head regularly? I know it's painful but if I just want to get it over with ASAP.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 Winston Lennon

It's pretty crazy alright regarding the erections, typically you'd just sleep through them so it's certainly an eye opener!

I think the jocks I wore to bed last night were too tight, anytime I woke with an erection is was kind of throbbing/twitching as there was limited space due to tightness, not a pleasant experience!

Like others I have noticed a blistering effect on the head today, obviously the exposure after 30 odd years concealed! I have noticed the sides of the head have become slightly less sensitive but the tip is still uber sensitive.

The next few days will be a challenge without the World Cup, I am still largely housebound as walking is still fairly uncomfortable.

How long from after the the operation did you guys wait until having a shower?

    Cheers!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,114 ✭✭✭✭Gael23

I had mine done before puberty so cant help on the erections because I never experienced that. But I imagine loose underwear or even wear a tracksuit pants and no underwear if your staying indoors all day might help.
I would try and avoid rubbing it at all and definitely no **** or sexual relations. My concern would be the spread of germs into the wound and that you would irritate it in any way which prevents it from healing.
I remember having a shower after a only a few days but I would say whatever your comfortable with and maybe no soap for the first time.

I'm single at mo so no chance of the sexual relations..;-)

Nothing new to report on, think tonight will be the last night for the painkillers, just discomfort now as opposed to pain but I do find they help me sleep, Tradol, seem to be quite strong, anyway, gonna knock then on the head.

Plenty of erections last night as well unfortunately. Walking is becoming easier.

Still the blistering on head. Can't believe it's a week today since the procedure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 Winston Lennon

Nothing new to report really, am off all antibiotics and painkillers now. Ventured outside yesterday and got the hair cut, walking has become easier.

Head has become a tad less sensitive than it was but still very noticeable, I suppose it's just a question of time.

Might risk a shower today instead of a bath.

No masturbation either, you don't want to upset anything down there:)

Just be really careful to get the area totally dry afterwards. In terms of pain at this stage Tramadol shouldn't be needed, solpadeiene or paracetamol should do fine

Firstly i would like to thank all contributors to this thread as it has been a great help aswel as those who were very helpful through pm. I suffered from phimosis and have never being able to pull my foreskin back. Infact until about 17 i was unaware that there was anything wrong. Having done a bit of researching online i decided to try the stretching but i found the process horrible and was not stretching regularly so i decided to go to my GP.
He referred me to the urologist but unfortunately i missed my appointment and was sent to the bottom of the waiting list. Learned my lesson and made my next appointment. Instantly i was told i needed a circumcision and stretching would not work for me, was literally in and out and put on the waiting list. Got a phone call one day saying there was a cancellation and would i be available to have the procedure the following week. I took this and had to travel to the hospital the following day to do a blood test and answer medical questions. I think there was about 15 months between my appointment to the urologist and the operation.

Day of the operation, I arrived at the hospital at 2pm. Bit of waiting around and before i knew it i was awake in a ward, job done and out of hospital at around 7pm. Bit nervous having that first look as he was bandaged up well aswel as stained in some blood. Had to urinate before leaving the hospital and trying to force this it made me feel very weak for that brief period aswel as making the mistake of of not sitting on the toilet. Must say nurses were fantastic (public hospital by the way) answered my questions well and made the process easy. I was told all i would be in the mood for after the op was bed but i was fine walking around the place.

Now 14 days since the op, I was given a prescription for some painkillers but it never even crossed my mind to take them. Honestly have not felt pain although the sensation when it touches off something for the first week was scary so my only real walking distance was from the bed to the bathroom. My bandage fell off the day after the op and i did not apply a new one. First week i just wore boxers and lay in bed in a way they were not touching it and for the last week i have slept without any boxers.48 hours after the op i bathed it every day with a salt bath. I had quite a bit of swelling for the first few days but now its fully gone down. Erections are no longer painful infact very rarely did they wake me up during the night but i did get a few throughout the day.

Only worry i have is that underneath where the frenulum was there is a slight bit of skin not fully attached so it bleeds slightly. I was told by a doctor the skin might just fall off but other than that the wound is healing very well and it is nice to finally see my head.
My stitches are right up tight with the head so for people who have fully recovered from this op am i likely to be left with a viewable scar and is there any cream to reduce this?

Phimosis was affecting my life in a number of ways and already I am feeling a lot better so although i am not at an advanced stage yet i would still urge anybody suffering from this problem to get it looked at and for me one of the toughest parts of the whole thing was the original GP visit. Anybody with any questions leave a message below and i will be happy to PM you.

Had a shower but didn't go great, the water dripping down over the member was quite an unpleasant feeling.

Had a bath yesterday again but unfortunately there was a very small bit of bleeding afterwards, not sure if the rippling of the water upset a scab around the frenulum area or a stitch became loose. The blood appeared to come from the frenulum area anyway.

Would bleeding be unusal 12 days in?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 Winston Lennon

All good since. No bleeding. Sensitivity has gone way down. Last night was the first night I slept straight through the whole night . Feeling a lot better about things now. No longer having baths, going with showers now. So all good at the mo, touch wood it will continue to improve from here, (pun intended!)....;-)

Almost 4 weeks since the operation and the whole process has been pretty much painless, just uncomfortable.

The stitches seem to be dissolving and evening out well all-round, but there is one that is still very much bulging beneath the skin. 4 weeks on, I thought they would be all but gone so I'm pretty worried that I might end up with a stitch tunnel so I'll have the doctor take a look.

    Hi all,

I'm booked in for a partial circ in a few weeks and was wondering if anybody else whose had the same answer a quick (stupid, ignorant) question!!

When you get erect is there any massive visual difference between a full circ and a partial one?

    Jez... thats incredibly embarrassing!!!

    There are no stupid questions!

I can't answer as I don't have experience but hopefully you should find the answers you seek here!

Had the partial circ done at Arte Novi 3 months ago. I dont know about the difference because I havent had a full one to compare! I have pics if they are any use but PM only. Before after and healing process.

No not unusual for me. I actually separated the stitches at the frenulum in my sleep 10 days in. Too late for restitch and had to wait for it to heal by "secondary intention". Very slow but it worked out well as the thickness in the middle of the penis meant things were still tight (didnt fancy a splice and graft to relieve that!. The split healed very slowly with scar tissue and made things more roomy with daily steroid cream. Now its all good no tightness.

I cannot believe that it is over two years since I did the high jump !!! Just back visiting this thread as I used to come here quite a lot prior to my circumcision.

Where do I begin ??? Firstly I was a total idiot for waiting as many years as I did before I got circumcised. Cannot name the private clinic here but lets just say North Dublin, amazing service, brilliant result.

The various postings here were of FANTASTIC help to me as well as people who were kind enough to PM me at the time.

In summary : this was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life, healing was a doddle, no problems - everything was anticipated in advance.

Lest you be swayed by the anti - circumcision debate which you will find on the web - don't listen, its all hysterical nonsense. I have moved on 100% from where I was, looks fantastic, hygiene brilliant and sexually every woman I have been with has expressed the opinion that circumcision totally enhances sexual satisfaction for them (and I have to agree - as orgasms are explosive now !).

If you are sitting on the fence with this and you need this done (for whatever reason/motive/preference) my advice to you is don't !! It has been a win win win situation for me.

Thank you to Nailtron and Westskipper if you are ever back here !

A la prochaine, good luck and don't dither like I did !

    Two Qs:

    1) What's the story with peeing straight after the op? That's the only thing I'm actually worried about. I assume the bandage is just around the base of the head / area of the cut, so you don't need to remove the bandage to pee? I've read here people saying it hurts, but where and how bad?

    2) What the hell kind of client needs me in work at 7am, it's goddamned 5:42 am. Man was not meant to rise this early.
