    Two Qs:

    1) What's the story with peeing straight after the op? That's the only thing I'm actually worried about. I assume the bandage is just around the base of the head / area of the cut, so you don't need to remove the bandage to pee? I've read here people saying it hurts, but where and how bad?

    2) What the hell kind of client needs me in work at 7am, it's goddamned 5:42 am. Man was not meant to rise this early.

Correct, there's a hole in the bandage to allow you to pee out.
I read on here it was sore and was expecting the worst, but didn't feel a thing!
Just be careful of the angle it shoots from!

As for the early start, hope you got to finish early :)

Hi (going unreg for this one!),

So I've been following this thread for at least 5 years at this stage. I have phimosis and figured something was a bit off when I was in my early 20s. That's a good 10 years before I got around to actually doing anything about it!!

So I went to two places, one a more traditional clinic near the canal in South Dublin where the option proposed was a full circ, and then to a less traditional place in Malahide where there was an option of a partial circ.

I have opted to go with the partial circ and I have it scheduled for the next few days! Eek!

Nervous about someone cutting off some of my little fella, but will be glad to get this sorted.

Just wanted to say thanks to TBH and everyone who posted in this thread over the years, I probably wouldn't have gotten this far with out that.

To anyone worried about getting this looked at, the worst part so far at my two consultations was getting parking! You are in and out in a few minutes and both docs were very professional.

I'll report back on my progress as I'm told a partial circ will have me back up and walking in about 2 or three days with far less recovery time... we'll see!

    Cheers,
    "Its About Time"

Sorry to learn that you are having problems with your "little fella". I'm sure you will get it sorted.

May I ask if you were offered the possibility of a non-surgical solution involving skin expansion?

    Hey,

"Its About Time" here again. Neither of the doctors mentioned stretching, but I did come across it online. I've no doubt it works but the fear of paraphimosis while in the half way stage made me not pursue it further.

Partial circ goes ahead tomorrow, nervous about how it will go, but after about 15 years of meaning to do something about it, kinda glad the day is finally here.

For anyone interested, particularly in a partial circ details and recovery, I'll report back in the next 48 hours!!

Thanks again to everyone who has posted here previously, it's been a great help!

    Cheers,
    "It's About Time"

By tomorrow you'll wonder why you built it up so much. In a month you'll be annoyed that you waited 15 years. Had same op as u at same place I think. PM if any last questions.

    Hey,
"It's About Time" here again. So all done and dusted!!!

All in its been pretty painless so far. I opted for a sedative so I was sort of asleep for the whole thing.

No pain yet thank god but have a first aid station ready to go with creams, pills and bandages.

Was planning not to take anything but decided not to be a hero and I'll put on some numbing cream (prescribed by the doc) and pop a few Nurofen before bed to help with the dreaded night time wood I've heard about.

Took the advice to sit down when peeing and that was a good idea too.

Not sure what it will look like when all is said and done, buy for now it's a little swollen and there is a ring of sutures around the top that are supposed to fall out by themselves over the next few weeks.

All a bit surreal at the minute, will be glad when then next few days are over and dreading the potential night time erections tonight but so far so good, can walk around ok and no real bleeding or anything.

    Will report back tomorrow!

Thanks again for all the advice and support offered on this thread, it's a massive help.

    Cheers,
    "It's About Time"

I went to the doctor 9 years ago when I realised that you are supposed to be able to retract your foreskin- I couldn't. So he prescribed me with steroid cream and I stretched a lot and can retract it when erect now but it doesn't go up or down smoothly, it's still tight but is ok now. But I really want to get circumcised- was anyone like me where stretching and cream worked to a certain point? And do you need to be a really bad case to get a doctor to okay your circumcision?

Hey, ""it's about time" here again,

So has the partial circ yesterday and this is the end of the first full day.

Double dropped some Nurofen Plus and put on some of the numbing cream last night and thankfully I had no night time pain. Woke once with very mild stinging, no worse than pins and needles, so was very happy / relieved with that!!!

No real bleeding or pain at all to report so far. I even veggie ventured out to the cinema!!

The skin is quite swollen at the moment so looking forward to that starting to go down soon. I have a ring of little blue stitches around the top of the skin that are supposed to fall out over the next few weeks and I think it will be a month before things get back to normal!

I'll update again when there is more news, anxiously awaiting for the swelling to go down now.

    Cheers,
    "Its about time".

PS. To the guy above asking about stretching, you've come this far, would you not stick it out? But if you rely want to, yes you can get a circumcision if it's what you really want. Start with a chat with your doctor, you'll be in and out in 5 minutes and can stop worrying then!!

Glad to hear yours is going well. I have stretched a lot but I can't go beyond a certain point, it's like the phimotic ring (scar) doesn't extend anymore, no matter what. As I said, I can fully retract when erect now but it doesn't go up and down smoothly and I dislike having the scarred ring also. Can I ask how much yours cost?

    Hey,

"Its About Time" here again. So a little more bruising and a little less swelling at the end of day two. Still no pain or bleeding so can't really complain.

I have to pull the skin back a bit to expose all of the stitches so I'll ask the doc about that as I'm not sure if the scar line will ever dry out if it's hidden inside.

I'm going to go to work tomorrow. I could stay at home, and it's not me being a hero or anything, but with no pain or bleeding I don't see why not. I have a few wipes and bandages that I'll stick in my pocket for trips to the toilet so it should be ok.

After reading all the stories about the full circumcisions, it seems the partial circumcision healing process is much better. The doctor said he uses lasers with result in a much shorter healing time as it cauterises the skin / nerves etc so that seems to be true in my case anyway.

With the partial the head is not fully exposed when flaccid, just the very tip, so there are no sensitivity issues either.

For people considering this, I would recommend discussing the following with your doc in this order...
    1. Look at stretching
    2. Look at partial and other non full option
    3. Full circumcision

Will keep you updated on the healing process. If those who mentioned bathing in salt, or the bowl of salt water dip want to share how much salt to water they used that would be great as I'm going to give that a go tomorrow!

    Cheers,
    "Its about time"

Ps: To answer the question above, as I did this privately in a clinic that was not covered by the VHI, the cost was about 850 euro. I had the option of a full circumcision covered by the VHI but the urologist said he didn't do partials so I looked elsewhere and I'm glad I did!

I too had phimosis for years, eventually decided to get something done about it a few years back myself. Wasnt interested in stretching etc, and the doc i went to advised me that if i had it for years, that scar tissue had formed and such tissue wont stretch anyway.
Went and got partial circ done in private clinic in Dublin. This sorted out the problem for me, but i realised some months later that while i no longer had phimosis / tight foreskin problems, it was a neither-one-thing-or-another result. I really didnt like the look or feel of it after it healed. Eventually I went back and had a full circ done for purely cosmetic purposes. I am much happier with the result and would advise anyone thinking of getting the chop to go the whole hog. I have no regrets at all and have no complaints about loss of sensitivity etc. Full circ is a neat and tidy job and is much nicer to live with.

What I haven't seen discussed is those who had adult circumcisions and the requirement to abstain from any orgasms for three weeks - we're ye not bouncing off the walls with frustration?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 andyirish

Hey guys everybody on the fence, do not think twice. I think getting a full circ done two years back was my best decision. There are more advantages than disadvantages. its just a discomfort for couple of weeks it the wound heals. Midnight woodies are the worst part. But noticed that if you relieve your bladder before going to bed really helps.

I got it done in a hospital in Dublin 18 and they did a fantastic work. After two weeks I had a post operative check up with the urologist and no issues and the tool was good to use. As per his recommendation always used a lube for both self pleasure and sex and am really enjoying the sex with vigour now..

Does the scar fade over time?

The scar fades slightly over time. But it is not that noticeable at all.

Has anyone experienced infection in the frenulum area after the operation? My op was 2.5 weeks ago and the rest of it has healed up grand but ive an infection in the frenulum. There is a little build up of puss and the area itself is red/tender/bumpy.

I was given antibiotics (flucloxacillin) by my GP but after 5 days there may have been a tiny improvement but nothing major. Anyone else experienced this? Please reassure me itll improve! lol

I also have a frenulum question- is it normally removed during a circumcision?

I have a question for those who have been circumcised as adults due to phimosis. Since phimosis causes scarring whch restricts the foreskin to retract, does the scar left by circumcision leave a tightness when erect?

At the start yes. After a month of steroid cream and "manipulation" all tightness gone and skin supple. Perfecto.

    Hi guys,

Have a slightly different issue to most I think. I can retract the foreskin fully when flaccid and it's no problem. Even when erect, I can retract the foreskin but it's quite tight and uncomfortable. The issue doesn't seem to be the actual opening of the foreskin or the frenulum but there is a tight ring of skin (almost looks like scar tissue) at the base of the glans. It's basically stopped me from having intercourse - this March I had to stop a girl giving me a handjob because it's just tight and uncomfortable, the penis can't stand any 'rough handling' so to speak so I never even bothered trying to progress to intercourse with it. Went to my GP who referred me to a urologist who I saw yesterday. He said the problem isn't a significant medical threat but he's obviously not able to assess how uncomfortable I am during sex so it's up to me. He said a frenuplasty wouldn't help (I'd probably agree) and said a full circumcision would be his only recommendation.

I'm just a little hesitant because I'd rather get a preputioplasty or a less invasive surgery - my GP said at first too he didn't think a circ would be neccessary just a small procedure. The urologist said the preputioplasty is normally only done on young boys and 'all it basically is is taking back the foreskin' - but from what I can find on the internet this is definitely not the case, and from blog posts and pictures I've found a preputioplasty looks like exactly what I need. I'm probably going to get another opinion from a 2nd urologist but I had two questions:

    1) For those who got full circs as adults and are now a few weeks/months on - how is the loss of sensitivity? This is my biggest concern.

    2) Has anyone actually gotten a preputioplasty? I couldn't find any posts which indicate so. If you have please share yr experience.

So I’m the latest to have a circumcision. I had it the day before yesterday and will now post my experience. I am in my late 20’s and always had a tight foreskin which I could never retract past the head of the penis. I never realised this was an issue until about 6 months ago. Anytime I was with a girl I always had to tell her to be gentle especially when she put her hand on that area but when inside her it was ok. During one session a number of months ago I was a little rougher than usual where the tip of the foreskin appeared wider than normal afterwards. I decided to pull the foreskin back behind the head for the first time as from seeing porn etc I realised those with foreskins were able to retract it. Anyway after some pulling and pain I eventually got it down. But the skin tightened and squeezed the penis underneath the head and I couldn’t get it back up. I had work in the morning and it was time for bed. I tried and tried again but no use. I thought it might work its way back overnight. I didn’t get much sleep and had to get up a few times.

In the morning it had really ballooned up, was red raw, white puss was coming out of it and if it touched off clothing or something it was very sore. I managed to get to work by driving which I don’t usually do. After an hour I had to leave and go to the A&E department in hospital. It was there I found out I would need a circumcision at some stage but not that day. After a local anaesthetic and some oxygen, one of the doctors got the foreskin back up. It got me thinking and so after some research I bought a few tubes of betamethasone cream online. I used this for 2 months and it allowed me to pull the foreskin up and down but it was still tight when it was down and felt uncomfortable.

I then decided I would go to the GP who forwarded me on to an Urologist. I had it in my head I would only need a preputioplasty as I only needed the tip of the foreskin to be widened a little bit. The Urologist said they don’t do preputioplasty as it leads to 2 flaps of skin at either side of the penis and aesthetically it doesn’t look good. Last thing I wanted was a circumcision and so this was not good news for me. But after some talking I agreed to go with a circumcision. The appointment was set up in a Dublin hospital 8 weeks later and it helped to have medical insurance. So far the cost for me was appointments to see the GP and Urologist.

So I went in at 7am to register at reception in the Day ward and was out by 1.30pm. I was put to sleep as they worked on me. It was sore when I woke up but after some morphine it was ok. They gave me pain killers to take home. The first night I didn’t get any sleep. Yesterday I had a bath and removed most of the dressing. The final layer of dressing touching the penis I had to leave it as it was too sore plus it seems to have stuck to the penis and I would like it to heal a bit better first just in case I disrupt the stitches. Last night I managed to get sleep but woke up several times due to erections which were unpleasant.

So it is now 2 days later and the head looks very red and sore to touch. I ventured out today by wrapping tissue around it and wearing briefs so it isn’t bouncing around. I wish now I could fast forward a few weeks and be back to normal again. Reading other peoples experiences of this on boards.ie has been a huge sense of relief for me as I don’t feel I’m the only one that has gone through this. I wish they had thought some of this stuff to us back in our school days. I might post again in a month and let you know how it’s getting on. Hopefully I won’t ever have to scream at a girl again to be gentle when being intimate and this procedure will allow me to use the organ as it should be.

Sounds like he was confusing a dorsal slit, with a preputioplasty. Just a bit of a difference there. I dunno, maybe not(but a tad worrying when added to the opinion of Tight Willy Nelson's GP). In any event, my take with any medical procedure is that if you have questions or doubts, get a second, third, even fourth opinion to put your mind at rest. Like any profession or trade medicine has its differences of opinion, level of expertise and knowledge of different procedures and "fashions", "that's what I do" with it. And like any profession or trade caveat emptor and do your personal research.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I always do because my hand doesn't glide along otherwise. I have done it without a few times but lube adds much more pleasure and makes you cum much faster in my experience.

    Hey guys,
Had a circumcision on Tuesday last week and i'm worried that I burst a stitch ? there's like a little raw red line right above two of my stitches ? is this normal ? also there doesn't seem to be any scabs forming......i,ve searched all over the internet and everyone got a scab over the incision line apparently....if things don't change I think i'm going to go to my GP

I burst quite a few. They WILL heal. Just a lot more slowly through "secondary intention " Google it re circumcision. Use plenty of steroid cream after it seals across (3+ weeks for my burst ones) for supple soft tissue. I wouldn't go to a GP if it wasn't sore or infected.

Would agree with this but if you don't have steroid cream you need a prescription so that means you will have to see a GP. Otherwise apply that, keep the area very clean and dry and if the problem doesn't improve then see a GP.

yeah I think I will have to go to the gp to get a steroid cream prescription...the lines where the stitches seem to have burst seem to be healing though.....but I will go just to make sure everything is fine
