Well.. my toddler got done at the weekend at The Beacon

The toughest thing I have ever had to do bringing him into surgery...and I was very emotional as it was our decision to do it (although a medical reason).

Still gives out to me for not listening to him while the were giving the anesthetic.

He will forget it, but for me ..I wont

5 days gone by and he is all good, running, playing, a little bit sore but all well.

    DT

Hi all, I had the operation last week due to phimosis, I know it will be worth it in the long run but I'm finding the recovery quite frustrating. Reading this thread really helped me make the decision to get it done and gave me a good idea of what to expect, but I still have a couple of concerns, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's been 5 days now since the op and as I expected, it's the over-sensitivity rather than pain which is causing me trouble. I wore loose boxers for the first couple of days and then switched to tight ones, using a hanky to keep it wrapped up, which I found far more comfortable initially. I've had to re-wrap it each time after going to the bathroom because of blood spots on the hanky, which often caused it to stick to the wound and even the head of the penis, with the unsticking causing further discomfort. I've stopped using a hanky and gone back to loose boxers for tonight to give things a chance to breath and dry out a bit, but I'm finding this a lot less comfortable and a lot more difficult to move around. Two questions here:

There were some yellow spots on the hanky too, is this just plasma from the blood or should I be worried about an infection?
And is it better to leave it unwrapped so as to let the air at it?

I also have quite a bit of swelling between the head and the line of stitches, especially on the right hand side and underside, which I think a few others have mentioned before. I'm beginning to worry that this may not go down fully and I'll be left with a bulge on one side. Could this be a sign of infection? It's not particularly painful but it doesn't look right to me, could anyone give me a time frame for when the swelling usually subsides? I did a google search about this issue and found another forum where somebody said their swelling never went away and they were left with it (this was 8 month post-op), has this happened to anyone here?

Thanks in advance for any replies and sorry if I'm repeating old questions!

Don't reuse dressings whatever you do since that just aids in getting bacteria into the wound.

i will be 10 weeks on Monday since the operation, I still have bruising on the head which seems to be taking ages to clear - is this normal? even after 10 weeks... the recovery has been slow but I am getting there...

Have you been for your post op checkup in the hospital yet? I'm about 8 weeks since the surgery and the scar is still a bit sore at times after masturbation and sex. I'm sure some bruising isn't much to be worried about.

I still have that bubble of skin too, but it hasn't really caused me any issues except not looking nice. Going to ask them to remove it when I go back for my checkup in Jan. It's right under the head though so I don't know if that's even an option.

i didn't have a post op checkup nor do I have one scheduled. the consultant said he doesn't usually see guys after the circ.

my scar can be sore at times too, I haven't had sex yet was kinda worried I would damage it, the healing process is really taking its time but I'm happy I got it done.

no mine fell off pretty much straight away - you don't need to re-dress. the first couple of days are the worst as you do not know what you should be doing.

I've previously read in this thread that the waiting times for a circumcision for medical reasons (tight foreskin) are a year or even longer.

Having made up my mind to do something about this, I really can't wait around for another year. So my options are to pay for it privately (one clinic in Malahide is charging about 1,000 euro, which is fair enough), but I also have VHI.

My query with VHI is, I obviously knew about this condition when I signed up to VHI via my new job (during the Summer). So am I eligible to avail of the speedier route to circumcision via health insurance, or should I just pay the cash to a private clinic myself, upfront?

Nah, it shouldn't impact on health insurance. I got mine done in 2000 at 22 years old. Took me about 2 months from Doc referral to surgery. Claimed on vhi no problem. Best decision I ever made.

Well I'm covered by Laya through my work and they covered a majority of it for me. I rang in November to the beacon, had the consultation 2 weeks later and then had the op done 2 weeks after that! No harm ringing VHI and seeing if they'll cover it for you in total!

Hey folks, got the cut done 2 years ago, and since then I have noticed a steady decline in sensation in my penis. Has anyone else experienced this?

Now i have no regrets about getting it done as I had phimosis, aggressive BXO and a short frenelum ( the package deal as it were) and so I had no choice. But this sensation loss is a real downer, and seems to be causing a general lower sex drive too.

    Anyone have any input?

Would you like to have a look at the public pages of two foreskin restoration web sites?
    http://www.restoringforeskin.org/
    and
    https://foreskinrestoration.vbulletin.net/
Doing this process helped me to get some decent sensitivity and helped with self body image. I was circumcised soon after birth. I'm also in normally intact Ireland.

    Hi all...

Looking for some advice. I got a circumcision and vasectomy 4 months ago.

I'm pretty much healed now, but I have noticed that it's a lot more difficult for me to climax. Not when I'm having sex, but when I use my hand (or my wife uses her hand on me). I know it's all very different for me now, I used to know exactly what worked for me, but that's now changed, and I need to re-learn what works. I need to use lubricant for a start, which I didn't have to do before. And I find that if I don't have an extra stimulant (like mutual masturbation with my wife, or looking at porn), it just doesn't work for me. Before the Op I had no problems climaxing through masturbation without any extra stimulant.

I don't know if this is purely down to the physical changes and me getting used to them, or if there are some psychological aspects as well, in a kind of "I think it's not going to be easy to climax, so therefore it isn't" way, if that makes sense? Also, when I had a foreskin it was easy to climax in a 'tidy' way, as I could close the foreskin before I climaxed, but that's impossible now, so it's either a lot more messy, or I have to be very practical (like try it in the shower), so that adds a psychological aspect as well.

Like I said, I have no problem climaxing while having sex, and any time I do climax it feels great, possibly stronger than before.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this, post op?

    Thanks...

I have been on the public waiting list for nearly two years and I am finally getting to meet the specialist today to discuss the op with him.

Hopefully I will be getting the job done next Thursday.

At the end of the day its all a risk.
I'm due to get a frenuloplasty next week.
Eight years go I had brain surgery. Element of risk with that, V High.

    Way up risks vs Needs.
    It will be grand.

So you're getting the 2 heads done.....
Ah yeah I know what I'm getting myself into and there are risks attached to everything. I feel it's the best option for me and I hope it goes well. And I hope all goes well for yourself too.

Long time follower of this forum and finally decided to register and give my input.

Like many others on this thread I've had a problem with a tight foreskin all my life. I always knew I needed to get something done about it and with the help of the good people on this thread I plucked up the courage to get it sorted. I had a partial circumcision in the clinic in Malahide recently. I still have the 4-6 weeks recovery ahead of me but reading back on the experiences of other posters here I'm optimistic all will be good.

Just thought I'd share in case there's someone reading this like I was for many years, who is reluctant/embarrassed by the issue, just go and visit your GP and they will advise what is best for you. Don't let embarrassment hold you back.

Thanks again to the posters on this thread

How long do the testicles stay bruised for after the procedure?

I had mine done around 10 days ago and there is still some bruising in that area.

    Hi All,

From reading through the thread is seems most people are getting the circumcision as a result of phimosis, I am coming at from the other side, I get infections of my foreskin / glans roughly 4 times a year, this has been occurring for over 10 years, I have had diabetes / std tests carried out and I have no issues there. I am just sick to death of the usual "here is a cream, use this" or "make sure your keeping yourself clean" I am a very clean person downstairs, not overly clean with scrubbing etc. I have seen 3 separate GP's and they always advise the same.

Is there anybody on the thread who has had the circumcision carried out for this reason? I have recently learned about BXO and I am genuinely concerned for my future health because of the recurring infections.

    Thanks

    Hey all,

It's two weeks since I did my full circumcision...

Checking in with an update a year on from my procedure.

I just want to reassure people that I'm doing great and I have no regrets or issues since I completed mine. Once the stitches were gone after a number of weeks I was perfect as ever really.

I know, like me, some of you will find this thread while you're secretly researching whether to get it done or not (or what it'll be like if it was medically necessary like in my own tight foreskin case).

One of the big worries I had beforehand was the sensitivity of the exposed head - I was afraid I wouldn't be able to move without it touching off my underwear and 'stinging' me. But after a week or two of full exposure the skin really does toughen up and I had zero issues with that, thankfully. (don't worry, it's still sensitive in all the right ways!)

So if you need to get it done, don't be afraid of it.

How much does the procedure tend to cost?
