Which Bank gives Best Conversion Rate?

I phoned a few banks today to ask what rate I would get if paying in a £500 sterling cheque.

I got the following rates

Bank of Scotland: €724.63
AIB: €714.48
Permanent TSB: €714.29
Ulster Bank: €711.74

I was expecting Bank of Scotland to be quite good as they appear to be quite competitive in the market.

Are there any other banks which are well known for providing good conversion rates?

Shopping around is really the only way to be sure.

Dont forget the Post Office as well as the Credit Union.

The banking facility at the post office appears to be connected to the AIB...

so I'd guess the post office would offer the same AIB rates.

Hadn't thought about the credit union though...

Would you happen to know if you can open an account for business purposes, (sole-trader, not a company), with the credit union, or is it for private customers only...?
