Was wondering if anyone knows if there are Rottie pups(Bitches) for sale in the Munster Area. I wish to add to my brood.

Are you planning on breeding them? Or is your male neutered already? I believe they can be a difficult dog to rehome due to their unwarranted bad reputation.

Maybe do a google search for a UK rottie rescue - they would probably have some contacts who rescue them in Ireland.

No he is not neutered. I am not planning to breed the bitch but maybe the male I still have not decided. They are for company more than anything else.

No he is not neutered. I am not planning to breed the bitch but maybe the male I still have not decided.

Then make sure you get the bitch neutered asap when you get her, otherwise you'll end up with a litter before you know it! While you're at it, neuter your dog - there's really no excuse for the average dog owner having an intact dog in this day and age.

Do you have the requisite expertise to be a good breeder? Do you know enough about desirable breed characteristics? What about health/behaviour problems that can result from poor breeding? Do you show your dog? How do you know there'd be demand for any ensuing litters? What would you do if you couldn't find homes for all the pups? Do you know how to socialise/train them properly?

Contact the IKC for advice from a responsible rottie breeder. Alternatively ring the number given for rottweiler breeders in the 'Dog Breeders of Ireland' key post on this site.

Sorry if this seems a bit preachy, but there are far too many amateur breeders out there who think all they need do is introduce a dog to a bitch and let nature do the rest, which is main reason for the disastrous decline in the health of many popular breeds, and the enormous numbers of Irish dogs dumped or killed every year.

Excuse me? All I was asking was for a pup. I do not wish to be a professional breeder, but it seems that you are. What do you breed? No I do not show him yet but I have been complimented by people who do show dogs. He is not going to be neutered. He is very sociable and never let off the lead when out as under The Control of Dogs Regulations 1998 he is one of the 10 dogs that have to be kept under control. I understand so many amateur breeders out there who think all they need do is introduce a dog to a bitch but I am not that stupid or naive. I am a careful and loving owner who understands the health problems they have esp. when they get older.

Apologies if you took offence, I didn't mean to come across as though I was giving out or anything :o !

I appreciate that you are a responsible owner, unfortunately rotties are one of the breeds to suffer more than most from irresponsible owners - it is just heartbreaking to go to a rescue/pound and see all the beatiful dogs, many of them pedigree, who have been surrendered because their owners thought they'd give breeding a bash, or who have neglected to neuter their dogs and have as a result had an unwanted litter.

Can I just ask why you're not getting him neutered? I'm sure you are aware of the many health benefits for the dog that neutering offers? Why wouldn't you neuter him if you don't intend to breed him?
