The closest place I've seen Mountain Dew is Finland and rootbeer was Selfrdiges in the Bullring in Birmingham. Would love to find Mountain Dew a little closer though. I absolutely adore the stuff.

Spar in Ranelagh used to sell both. Don't think they sell either any more though, but it's worth a try. Spar in Donnybrook have some american drinks too.

Is root beer not just ginger ale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,457 ✭✭✭Blisterman

    No, it tastes completely different.

Is it made with ginger or what's the story? I only ask out of curiosity.

Root beer is puke beer but each to their own :D - they used to sell in in Spar in Camden Street. I haven't been there for ages so don't know if they still have it!

Almost spot on. We likened it to foul tasting medicine when me and a mate tried it in his Uncle's house. He had the cop-on to "go to the bathroom" and make the drink disappear. I had to suffer through a can of it. Blech.

Mountain Dew - Chinese supermarket on Capel Street.

To me it takes like Listernine or this really strong toothpaste called Euthymol(sp)..the first time i tasted it was in a resturant in the states so I couldn't spit it out! :D

first drank the rootbeer in the A&W restaurant..
    Loved it..
I guess it's one of those drink either you like it or hate it...

The closest example I can compare is Dr.Pepper

One thing I have had before that i really like was Fanta grape..
They had it in asian countries, south africa..
Dunno why they don't introduce it in ireland..
Since there's fanta in ireland anyway..
    It's just another flavour..

    From Wikipedia

Root beer is a fermented beverage made from a combination of vanilla, cherry tree bark, licorice root, sarsaparilla root, sassafras root bark, nutmeg, anise, and molasses among other ingredients. Each root beer has a unique recipe. Many local brands of root beer exist, and homemade root beer is made from concentrate or (rarely) from actual roots.

Only time I've ever had Mountain Dew I bought in in Newry. It can stay there as far as I'm concerned. Foul stuff altogether.

You must've been looking in the wrong place. I was in there the day after and got 5 cans of Mountain Dew...they also had AJ's Root Beer (I think that's what it's called - it's one of the big brands anyway).
