Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi folks,i recently experienced the delights of wireless when i bought a new laptop and hooked it up to my eircom bb.
Im considering moving my gaming machine to another room and dont want to go through hassle of moving the actual phone socket etc.
A friend has recently moved his gaming rig into attic conversion and says he gets same pings as when he was on ethernet.
What way will it work having both gaming rig and laptop on wireless?
Is it possible with the eircom wirless router and single antena?

My friend is using an msi wireless 11g pci card for his setup.
Im thinking of dropping by pc world and picking upthis belkin

I rarely buy anything from pc world but would be nice to get hold of this tomorrow.
Any advice on this piece of kit?

No bother having the two on but remember that you'll be sharing the bband bandwidth between the two. As long as your not downloading large files on the lappie and playing online at the same time you'll have no problems. Be aware that with that pci card you won't get 54mbits X 2 unless you also have the Belkin router that also supports it. Not an issue for broadband but is if your transfering 2GB files around the place. I'm running 3 pc's and a laptop on an 802.11b (11mbit) network with no problems and can play bf2 etc with no problems. No wires is great. :D Also make sure you secure it properly.

    Welcome to wireless...

The card above is fine but you won't get the hi-speed connection unless you replace the eircon router with a belkin high speed one and all the other cards connecting are hi-speed too (belkin). Better to just get your bog standard 803.11g card put it in desktop and surf away. Have the belkin stuff myself and it works but not at anything like the speed they say on the box.

The 2nd PC will just get its IP via DHCP from the router the same way your laptop did, remember that you are still using ethernet just the transmission method has changed so the pings won't be affected nor should game play.

Use the laptop to 'Site Survey' the area you want to move the desktop to checking for any blind spots in the routers coverage bearing in mind that the desktop wireless card may not have the same range as the laptops, but if you get a strong enough signal to connect using the laptop then the desktop should be fine.

    Good luck:)

    Thanks guys.
So if i get that belkin from pc world and keep existing eircom router will i get same pings as normal for BF2 etc?
The laptop is purely for browsing so there will be no dloading on it while gaming.

Just to add my 2 cents. I find the quality of Belkin wireless cards a bit naff tbh. (I supported a wireless network of 200+ users so I've seen/used all brands of cards.) I'd def wouldn't buy one myself.

Linksys all the way for me. Quality equipment.

I think so but don't quote me as I always have played through t he wireless connection. Test it if you can as I'd be interested to know if theres any difference? In the BF2 serverlist I have pings from 50 upwards. Pings to boards.ie
