Moving House - Transferring my BT Connection

Im hopefully moving house in the next few weeks and Im gonna need to transfer my broadband. Im with BT at the moment so Im just wondering if anyone here has moved house and brought the BT service with them?

Did the changeover take months.. What did it cost? etc.

Theres an inactive line there already, so Im presuming it'll be quicker to get Eircom to activate the line remotely and then immediately look for it to be transferred to BT.

Ive a feeling this isnt going to be easy. I can get broadband in the new house, (Ive already had a friend in eircom check for me) but Im not confident that it'll go smoothly!

I wish you the best of luck seeing that your with BT, I've heard some mad stories over the years and had hassle myself with them a few times. when you do move make double sure that your service at your current home is terminated, you don't want to be getting a giant bill from Esat a few months down the line.
as for the inactive line at your new home it may not be set up for BB if that's the service you have and you may be waiting a few weeks to get it activated.

If you are outside your contract it would possibly be faster/cheaper to cancel your existing BB and sign up as a new connection in the new house.
Get the inactive line activated in advance of moving if you can. This will cut down on the delay while waiting for it to be tested for BB.

So whats the procedure if I was to cancel altogether and start off from scratch in the new house?

Would I have to post back the router I have now?

Check the T&C's on their website. I know I didnt have to when I canx BT about 8 months ago and moved house. But I do with the UTV one I've got now.

BTW afaik if you take your old phone number with you, you get an automatic fail on BB until the line is tested as part of the usual monthly test cycle. Therefore I had to wait well over a month before I was reconnected.

Expect at least a month of huge dial up bills

I wont be taking the number with me.. its in a different exchange completely.

Yeah I've read up on that.. but ya know theres usually a difference in what happens in theory with them and what happens in reality. Im wondering will it be handier to just transfer the line and the broadband in one go. I wont have to pay cancellation fees then.

If you're outside contract there shouldn't be any cancellation fees afaik.
