Derry City v Glentoran team news

Derry veteran Peter Hutton will a new appearance record for the club

Derry City's injury problems continue ahead of Monday night's Setanta Sports Cup Group Two clash with Glentoran with the news that winger Gareth McGlynn could be out for eight weeks having damaged knee ligaments against UCD on Friday.

Attacking midfielder Pat McCourt (groin) also remains out, while defender Clive Delaney is likely to be on the bench.

Glens wait on the fitness of defender Mark Glendenning, who has a slight eye injury.

Kick-off at The Brandywell is 7.45pm.

    Linfield v Shelbourne team news

Alan Moore (groin) is out while fellow midfielder Greg O'Halloran (foot) is a doubt as Shelbourne go to Windsor Park hoping to exorcise the ghost of last year's Setanta Sports Cup final defeat to Linfield.

Joseph Ndo and Stuart Byrne come into contention to start for the second of Monday night's Group Two matches.

"They beat us well on the day last year," said boss Pat Fenlon who spent two years at Linfield as a player in the mid-1990s.

"Our performance wasn't good and we want to put that side of it straight. A win would give us one foot in the semi-finals."

Blues, who can win the Irish League at Armagh on Saturday, are without banned trio Glenn Ferguson, defender Pat McShane and midfielder Paul McAreavey.

Kick-off at Windsor Park is 8.00pm.

Linfield - Shelbourne is live on Setanta Sports, with coverage commencing at 7:30pm.

Hopefully the Irish teams can get anything from 4-6 points tonight. I can see Derry overcoming Glentoran, backed by what will no doubt be an insanely enthusiastic crowd. I'd predict 3-1 Derry, despite their injury "crisis" - they have more quality cover this season. Glentoran can't stop leaking goals, and I think Derry's new look forward line will have little difficulty inflicting another 3 goals upon them.

Now, onto the important (;))game, Linfield - Shelbourne. Should be a cracking game, both teams love to play attacking football, and both are capable of scoring alot of goals. After Fridays 2-2 draw with Bray my confidence was knocked (imagine how the team felt!), but I'm optinmistic again and expect Shelbourne to triumph by the odd goal in 5. 3-2. I hope! Should be a fast-paced, exciting game either way.
Joey Ndo is set to start, so that should give us ridiculously creative vision and incredible passing in the centre of the park right from the get-go. Kearney is also set to start, presumably with Ryan on the right wing, and Crawford partnering Ndo in central midfield. I'd imagine Byrne and Crowe will regain their positions up front, but personally I'd like to see Gary O'Neill partnering Jayo - he's a striker with a great brain, and creates alot of opportunites for other players, and isn't afraid to come deep to get the ball and tear at the defence. The back 4 should pick itself really, and the only doubt would be over who starts in goal. I think Nutsy will give Deano a vote of confidence, and start him tonight, despite his atrocious clanger against bray last Friday. Thinking 3-2, but a point away at Windsor Park would be a good result if we can beat them in Tolka next week. Travelling up myself, cannay wait! :) About 150 Shels supporters on official buses so far - not too bad considering where it is, at the opposite end of the country, on a Monday night, with the buses leaving at 4. I'd expect more to fly up on the motorway in cars aswell. Should be a great atmosphere, and hopefully both sets of supporters will give a good account of themselves. Linfield can expect a home support of a few thousand, so the banter should be good! :D

I really wish Setanta was free on SKY :( , oh well .

Hopefully it will be another good night for the LOI teams , im gonna predict a Derry win and a draw between Linfield and Shels .

I'll believe Ndo starts when I see him starting :/

Gutted I couldn't be there tonight. Absolutley gutted. The one away trip this season I most wanted to go on (I'll end up in places like the bleedin' RSC and miss out on this one...Baaah....)

Shels v Linfield depends entirely on Pat Fenlons team selection and the way he has us play. Go out with the old Crawford O'Hallaron mid field and we'll be taken apart, play some footballers and play football and there's nobody on this island we should fear home or away.

Shels are losing 2-0 to linfield & Derry are 3-0 against glentoran.

Don't think you'll see a clearer foul on a keeper than the one on Delaney for the second goal. First goal came after a mistake from Delaney though, I'm glad Willo is back in goals now, hope he gets an extended run now.

    We haven't deserved anything though.

Linfield deserved to win. Had more desire and worked harder all over the pitch.

For me Gary O'Neill is more effective than Crowe.

Thought the ball also hit the linfield players hand aswell on the way down. Terrible decision.

I take it Delany was just knocked out? Looked like he didnt have a breeze where he was.

For me, it's all about playing either Crowe or Byrne with O'Neill. We always seem to get results when we play someone up with O'Neill.

Have to beat Derry and Glentoran, as far as I'm concerned.

I think we'll have to beat Linfield next week at Tolka if we have chance of going anywhere in this competition.

Miserable night on and off the pitch.

We lacked any creativity and chances for us were few and far between. Linfield deserved there victory. Sadly for Shels it's already looks like the same team that arsed themselves around for the first half of last season.

Delaney has to be dropped. He makes too many mistakes and with IMO one of the best keepers in the league (maybe the best) on our bench, Nutsy has to make Williams No.1 choice again considering Williams didn;t do anything wrong in the first place.

Defensively I think we're strong but are prone to crucial errors. We sleep at times. I think we should go with Rogers over Cahill on the left and stick with Heary, Hawkins and Dillon.

We had an entirely different midfield last night than for the Bray match which wasn't looking good for a start. Ryan should not have been dropped but it I wanted to see Ndo and Kearney start. Ndo was ok but he has so much talent he has to be in the team more regularly. Keareny didn't do it for me last night. No doubt he has the talent but he doesn't deliver enough. Stuey Byrne wasn't overly impressive but I thought Alan Reynolds did ok.

Up front Crowe was better tonight than on Friday and Jayo was quiet. We badly needed Gary O'Neill on the ptich last night to put some life in us up front.

Some Linfield fans disgraced themselves and a some Shelbourne fans disgraced themselves. Lots of sectarian signing from a Linfield section and I'm sad to say there was a good 8 morons from the Shels contingent signing sectarian crap. I didn't hear this now but apparently there was racist chanting from the Linfield section behind the goal near the end and lots of our lads lost the plot and ran towards the Linfield section. This Linfield contingent got the reaction they wanted and were delighted with it. A couple of our lads threw missiles towards the Linfield section which was only lowering themselves.

Next Monday at Tolka is a massive security risk and I'm certain there will be some sort of trouble. IMO we're a long long away from an all-Irleand league.
