is it just me or does anyone else think that these "upgrades" are extremely disappointing compared to the speculation that there were going to be speed sof 6,8 and 10 mbits for the former 3 different packages???
I dont have ntl bb but from what i can make out they just added a new low cost package and increased the cost of the top package and made it 6mbs instead of 3 or am i wrong??
They could have really thrown down the gauntlet to €ircom and BT but they havent and tbh its not the incentive i was expecting that would tempt me to drop my landline and go with a cable bb and voip option and all the change over hassle it involves in the morning.

I think it's a compelling product range and I think it's a wise move to see how it goes instead of taking a giant leap into the unknown.

People on 3 get 6 for no extra cost seems fair to me

Lets see you get twice the speed (6m versus 3m) for €15 less then Eircom, how is that not impressive?, it completely blows away what Eircom offers and interestingly it is faster and cheaper then what colleagues of mine can get in Silicon Valley, US (4m for about $50+ on cable).

That doesn't mean anything, web browsing is limited by so many more factors than the speed of your connection.

I called up and got through to tech support; and was advised that my 3meg NTL connection should be upgraded in 4 - 6 weeks.

I requested they did it sooner and the girl in tech support said nothing could be done. I argued and quoted boards ppl's experiencess, and she called sales and then told me that she would send an e-mail to put my upgrade to high priority, and it would probably be done within a week - 10 days.

6megs downstream and 512 up..... wohoooo

Speedtest.ie can hardly be that accurate considering almost all of ntl customers are on it the whole time looking for a sppedtest. The only true way of finding out your exact speed is to download a file and then post your transfer rate.

Somebody on another has already posted this file to try out. You wont need to download the whole lot. Just when your speeds level out that will be your accurate speed.

i rang Sales on 1800 234 234 and they told me they would log it with IT and it would take 48 hours.

i'm telling you they want to see how many different answers they can give to the same question , its really funny i think

I rang them up 20 mins ago, went into the sales queue, inquired about getting the 6mb package having already been on the 3mb, they guy on the phone said I was already on the highest package and that I should be upgraded which he promptly did on the phone.

my download speeds are now worse then ever. lol

Not upgraded yet here in Sandyford, but my speedtest is rock solid 2.95Mb/294kb and I'm pinging 20ms to Jolt so I'm happy enough to wait.

this all just seems very badly organised by NTL....

I had eircom in Jan and when everyone was upgraded it occured over a 24 hour period - the whole country... yes there were people who had problems and yes i know its a different tech but the bulk upgrade was done in one day.

This dragged out roll out by NTL telling some people its going to take 4 - 6 weeks is a joke - if its going to take this long it had better go well
