    just back from croghan mountain.
There was a blizzard up there and about 3 inches level snow and Brrr it was freezing!!
The wind was loud and howling,I'd say the chill was very much in the minus.

A whole different world to down here.

I got photo's and when you see me you will see that I am absolutely totally freezing :D

Hope their really good. Would have gone up to Wicklow earlier myself. Anyway next week is looking very messy now. Just genuine confusion at the moment really, no model agrees.

For tonight with the buoy in the Irish sea at 5.2C and dew point above 1C its VERY unlikely low levels will see snow tonight. Unfortunate but thats just the way things work out this time of year:rolleyes:

I've decided not to put up the one with me shivering as it might crack your screens :p

First this is a close up of the side of the lane on the way up.
This is at about 1700ft asl about 5 to 6 miles west of Arklow

    CIMG0145.JPG

    my boots in the snow

search lamp into the snow falling It got heavier and it was freezing at which point I quickly scarpered back into the warm jeep!
The wind was so strong up there and it was so cold my hands were shaking.

The entrance gate to the mountain as we arrived

Only stayed up there all in all about 20 minutes

yeah it was actually good powdery snow.

The jeep temp there was varying from zero to minus 1 whereas down here it was plus 4c
So you can imagine what it felt like in the wind which I'd guess was easily gusting above maybe 40 to 50mph at times.
That was at about 10pm ish

Ive been up in Sallys Gap etc in really harsh conditions. Artic is the only way id describe it sometimes. Casement reporting sleet so maybe all is not lost:rolleyes: Also showers reinvigorating in the Irish sea.

I see them, there seems to be a heavy bit on their leading edge.

Sleet is all I'll see or maybe hail as the dp is 0.7 and the temp is 4.3

I know what its going to be like on the mountain though :/

Temps should start falling of quickly into the early hours. If anyone is up early enough you might see a flurry.;)

I must add there Earthman that even at night, in heavy showers the temp and dew point can drop quickly and snow may fall particularly toward the end of more prolonged showers:)

    Thats quite true.
I have the monitor for the Davis here in front of me and at times you can see it drop fast especially in showers.

In the last cold spell when we had the really low dp's here on a friday when that snow band was moving south, the RH was fluctuating like crazy as was the dp.
For tem mins it would be -7 and for another 10 -9 etc
The NW wind was blowing very dry air straight down from lugnaquilla
Getting close to the 10,000 mark Earthman :D:D

    I know :0

I've promised it to another board though...

I will probrably take a trip up tomorrow to the Gap (if its passable). Probrably the last snow I will see having the misfortune of practically living on a beach:cool:

    temp a balmy 4.9 dp 0c
all shower activity over wicklow mtns with a heavier band that swept in the last hour with a few cms or so.

    Hey nice boots Earthman
say it was cold up ther alright,at least you have a short drive to see lying snow.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 8,632 ✭✭✭darkman2

Yeah temps really are too high at the moment. Not going to be our night. The cold upper pool is gone now:(

a nice blob looking to head into Ulster

    And some action towards Wicklow

I think heavy activity would defiantely leave a coat of hail or snow yet;)

Temp here is 4.2c wc and the dp is +0.7c

The wet bulb is even worse at +2.7c

That said the temp did drop as all other showers approached so that could happen again.
However there was already a negative dp then...

I've no doubt there will be action up on croghan mt,though I'm not going back there tonigh - beds too warm LoL

I dont know about that blob goin to ulster wc,that has the signs of moving SW towards Nth Dublin northwards.Could be interesting as shower activity is building yet again out to sea

    Dublin airport taf latest...
    EIDW 162200Z 170624 07017KT 9999 SCT020 BKN030 PROB30 TEMPO 0615 -SHSNRA SCT012 SCT018CB BKN020 BECMG 0912 08022KT=

    Expecting sleet

though the short taf mentions snow grains :)

Theres nothing happening at ronaldsway on their metar and they dont seem to issue a metar - at least its not on AV brief

The metars for liverpool and manchester both have light rain though with a temp of 2c and a dp of 0c

    So it is very borderline

Just noticed a big drop in temp here now 3.5c
    something must be happening

    4:30am sleet shower. Temp 4C.

Also very interesting breakdown situation on the 00z for Ireland: heavy snow.

Some sleet showers on bray sea front...

Can anyone advise what gadget to buy to get weather details on a daily basis.

Have seen some units in great outdoors and northwest in carrickmines..

    They are small portable units.

I would need them for work.. ( Landsacpe gardener)

    Sleet here too with hail.

Interesting because the temp is 3.3c here with a dewpoint of -2c so the same as yesterday when it was all snow.
It goes to show that the 850 temps do matter
Heard Helen Willits on BBC this morning saying the cold would last untill friday and she mentioned a front behind which was artic air next week.
I only caught the sound though as I was in another room.

The DP here is now -2.9c and the temp is 3.3c

Definitely cold enough for snow still

    Windy
