Conduit split

I want to replace the line from the Eircom junction box at the side of the house to the inside (attic) with cat 5E to rule out a problem with that part of the line. However, I've found that the conduit that the builder used is in two parts, one on one side of a block wall and the other on the other side (inside). Electrician reckons they probably just drilled a hole through the wall somewhere between ground floor and attic. That means we couldn't pull new cable through the conduit as it is catching. Any solutions anyone on how to get a cable through? Without needing new conduit, drilling holes etc. that is. The present cable can be pulled through, but the tape join to the new cable is catching.

Maybe cut away several strands so you're only joining one or two strands. That way the join won't be fatter and catch. If there is an angle it might still catch as the joint may have a tendency to bend at a sharp angle where the regular wire tends to form an arc. try stiffening the joint so it behaves as much as possible like the rest of the cable. maybe a heat sealed sheath around the join would help (Maplins)

Make several test joins and subject them to pulling twisting before actually trusting them.

Also if it catches when pulling from one direction, try starting from the opposite end, might be easier.

Suppose lubrication wouldn't do any harm in making cable slide easier, but the key is to have the join behave as closely to the rest of the cable as possible to fool the conduit gremlins into missing it ;)
