Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Club formed after 1970 WC, inspired by Brazil?

My dad told me about a club formed shortly after the 1970 World Cup, inspired by the way Brazil played football. He said they became quite good but can't remember much about them, even whether they were Irish or not!
It may have been a temporary name. Anyone know anymore about this?

Ya know, for some reason this sounds familiar to me. I might have read it in a book or something but at the moment it's just tiny fragments in my memory. I'm going to do some research on this.

Can't say I know personally, but if no-one answers, you could try asking The Knowledge on the Guardian website!

Do they play in Brazils colours? That might help narrow it down a bit.

They were formed before the 1970 WC, so I'm not sure.

Kaizer Chiefs is a South African football team, founded in January 7, 1970 in Soweto, Johannesburg. The team is nicknamed The Amakhosi which means "lords" or "chiefs" in Zulu.

The team is named after its founder South African soccer legend Kaizer Motaung and his former North American Soccer League (NASL) team the Atlanta Chiefs. Several other people have played key roles in the formation and growth of the Kaizer Chiefs, including the late Gilbert Sekgabi, Clarence Mlokoti, China Ngema, and Ewert "The Lip" Nene.

I brought it up again with him recently and I think it may have something to do with Kilkenny City or a Kilkenny club???
