I heard a familiar tune on the radio today, turns out it was 'To The Bright And Shining Sun' by The Walls, but it sounded to me a lot like '1979' by Smashing Pumpkins. Was it sampled?

they do have some similarity all right altough I dont think it was an intentional rip off.
on the subject of Smashing Pumpkins/Irish band rip offs the rif from the smashing pumpkins song Perfect relased 97 souds a lot like blinded from whipping boy released 94
