Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Xbox 360 DVD firmware hacked

The Specialist et al have successfully managed to hack the 360 DVD (Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L DVD-ROM for the moment) firmware. This allows for 1:1 backups of original 360 games to be played on the system. It does not allow for unsigned code to be run however, so the team have not released the hacked firmware into the wild.

    Xbox-scene article is here:- http://www.xbox-scene.org/

Currently, even if the hacked firmware were released today, it would require desoldering of the firmware chip, figuring out the unique key for each drive, flashing and resoldering. There is talk of a software based solution for this being in progress already.

Obviously, the only practical use for this is to play backups (we all know what that entails) but it would open the door for a media exploit similar to the one used to open the original xbox, seeing that only the xbe files are signed on game disks.
