    How do

Getting me hands of a 3V card and have been looking through www.deepdiscountdvd.com, www.play.com and www.amazon.co.uk. I was wondering if these were the only proper sites you can get anime off or wether or not there were others.

I know a friend of mine tried shopping on one or two that he had heard about only to have the movies be "misplaced" in the post and eventually having his crd card details used in some online casino.

I'm not worried about being robbed since I dont plan on putting much money in the card but I dont want to have to go through lots of hassle trying to get something that I have already paid for.

    Cheers

If you are buying R1s, DVDPacific.com is practically the only game in town. There is actually rarely a reason to deal with any other US-based retailer. Their catalog is huge and their prices are great.

For R2s, it doesn't get better than http://www.play.com. http://www.amazon.co.uk isn't bad either if you like a mix of choices.

Don't rule out the specialist importers like http://www.up1.co.uk & otaku.co.uk

Someone else can provide info on the australian/New Zealand sites. The fact that region coding is (now) illegal there could have interesting implications for purchasing from places like ezydvd.co.au, but I have no direct experience.

    cheers man

I've got region-free software on my computer so I am looking more at R1 since they seem to be cheaper from america

Yeah certainly the R1 stuff is fantastic cheap from DvDPacific.

But Oz stuff is dead cheap too (if a bit harder to work out cost in euros) its also already PAL (which is a factor in screen quality).

Do you know of any sites where I could buy stuff like hats and keyrings with animé logos and such?

But I'm looking for a site with good prices and an okayish delivery time.

I ordered manga off Archonia.com before but it took ages for it to arrive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

Postal delays with Archonia are a bit rough alright. Which is a shame because it is otherwise a really good site.

I don't think UP1.co.uk do merchandise, and that just leaves places like anime-on-line (possibly) and otaku.co.uk but neither of those sites maintain stock levels. I am also unsure if they actually sell merchandise either.

I will have a flick through the back of neo to see if theres any other shoppign links.

Well I ordered from Archonia anyway, items got sent out today, just got to hope that it doesn't take too long for them to come.

Well I know Manga do alot of cool stuff besides movies - we have a load of price books out in AMS if you want one, not sure if they are on their site.

7-10 working days seems to be the general rule unfortuneately. My stuff got sent out Friday (we can race!).

The other thing about archonia is that the stuff is really secured well and packaged well. UP1.co.uk can sometimes use jiffy bags that can't take the strain of the airports wannabe-rugby-players-aka-baggage-handlers tender loving care.

  • Registered Users Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Zen 2nd

Well when I ordered 4 manga books it took 28 days to get to me :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

28 days from the time of posting? That sounds more like a postal snafu to me. I have had items from play.com take that amount of time too. When the stuff gets inspected somebody forgets to send it back for sorting. Or thats my theory.

Their minimum postal charge is a bit steep to be ordering just 4 books though.

Well my stuff arrived today :D so for it to be a draw yours would have to come tomorrow or unless it came today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

Well parcel post normally comes around lunchtime or after. So there could be a flier back at the house already, or posibly tomorrow.

Planetes 5 arrived this morning already, but play.com stuff often arrives seperately.

Aye play is rather annoying like that.. Ordered alot off it for AMS and it got sent out over several weeks.. was very odd recieving stuff sent out two weeks after the first was said to be sent..but hadnt arrived

When I order 8-10 DVDs from play.com I usually get a bundle tied with elastic band and most times there usually is one DVD that is missing and it arrives a few days later.

  • Registered Users Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

Once play stuff gets sent it is in the hands of the postal services and customs.

Not really their fault. You get similar things happening with cd-wow and any other carrier who uses the boring parcel post.

You win, I got a flier on tuesday so I thought I beat you even, but it was for my Gundam Zeta DVDs (hugs Gundam Zeta).

  • Registered Users Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Zen 2nd

You must be in a apartment or something to get a flier? As mine are just dropped in the door.

  • Registered Users Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

    This isn't play.com.

5 gundam DVDs come in a box. The Archonia delivery (8 manga titles) will be in a box too.

Won't fit through letterbox but someone might be there to receive it.

Zeta Gundam is looking good though.

Was checking out that archonia website cause theres a few manga comics i wanted to get and seemed like good value...until i found the delivery charges!!

On the site its says to rep of Ireland it costs for 350g its 4.45e...350g is like the weight of one manga comic

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭Art_Wolf

    *blinks*

hmm still at only 1 euro its almost half the price as to what you would pay instore for the books

How do you figure that out?

Lets say i wanna get Kami Kaze, its 7.39e on the site. Shipping costs come to 4.45e because one manga comic would be about 350g. thats 11.84e in total. what time would the train reach its destination?

Hehe sorries...but seriously if that manga was in forbidden planet it would be just under a tener. 11.84e is such a rip off theres gotta be a cheaper place!

AH I just looked in the Category page where everything was 1 euro

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 344 ✭✭Cosine

How much is manga of the internet normally?

I've checked out a few at easons and the like but at a tenner each I'd usually just read them and leave :o

Was over in London and found a place where it was £4 a manga book. :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

It depends where you go and what you are buying. Generally a 3 for 2 deal will own anything on line, except possibly play.com

By and large I haven't saved much money by shopping online. I have been able to source the titles I am into, but you need to be buying lots to overcome the cost.

Archonia's charges are 13€ .app for 2Kg. You can get up to about 8 standard size manga titles that way. So thats about +1.80€ each. If you got the titles for 8€ or less then you have just about broken even. Whatever you do, don't over weigh your delivery so that you are on the next price bracket (about 30€ per delivery).

  • Registered Users Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Zen 2nd

It's hard to find manga online that is cheaper than in the shops simply because "manga" is not taxed or taxed as heavily since its a form of art. Well thats the thought I have anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

Manga is typically 20% cheaper online at least. The problem is that delivery charges eat up that balance and then some.

Man it shouldnt be this difficult to buy some manga on-line lol

But it is. And there is nothing we can do about it. UK people are able to use amazon due to the variety of budget oriented delivery methods. That expands their choices a lot, and opens up an awful lot of titles. Paddies have to sort themselves out.

    May have been mentioned already...

    www.japanimation.com

I got the first two volumes of Card Captor Sakura manga and a Final Fantasy X watch there. It's a great shop. Has lots and lots of useless otaku things that we anime fans adore.
