The Irish Quiz Organisation presents its September Grand Prix at the Addison Lodge, Glasnevin, this Saturday at 10.30am.

Open to everybody it will be a fun day of quizzing on a wide range of topics.

The questions are being set by our quizzing compadres in the British Quiz Association and will be the ones used for the British Quiz Open, running the same day. So if you want to compete against the best quizzers in these islands, or just for fun (like most of us), come along and give it a go.

The day will also feature this month’s Hot 100 World Rankings quiz, and, time permitting, a team quiz.

Hi, does anyone know if any Quiz Leagues run in North or West Dublin?
Im interested in joining a team so I can play most weeks.
Ive done a couple of Table Quiz's but want the cut & thrust of a league.

Appreciate any info.

Hi there,

The IQO (Irish Quiz Organisation) (www.quizireland.ie) are your best bet here, they're a relatively new organisation devoted to encouraging competitive quizzing in this fair land. I'm involved with them and I can tell you there isn't exactly the thing you're asking for yet (i.e. a Dublin-specific or Ireland-specific team quiz league) but it is something they're thinking about. Meanwhile, there are other similar events that will help you scratch that quizzing itch:

• There's a monthly "Hot 100" quiz that we participate in -- basically a global individual quiz league. (Details at www.worldquizrankings.com) This usually takes place the first week of every month and the IQO organises a venue somewhere in Dublin for people to come & take the quiz over a nice cold pint. The next one is this Saturday in Glasnevin (see below)
  
  
• Every 2-3 months there's a bigger all-day quiz event organised by the IQO and the next one is a "Quiz Grand Prix" this Saturday (Sep 7th) in the Addison Lodge, Glasnevin. I see someone posted about this earlier today in this very thread, so I won't repeat all the details. But in case you're curious there'll be 3 separate events during the day: 2 individual and 1 team quiz. (One of the individual events is the September Hot 100 quiz as mentioned above) No need to book, you can just turn up on the day. The more the merrier!
  
  
• In general, if you want to get more involved in social quizzing in Dublin, here are two pages you'll find useful:
  1. The IQO keep an up-to-date Facebook list of table quizzes happening in the capital: www.facebook.com/TableQuizzesInDublin (If you're aware of any that aren't on the list, feel free to post a comment on the page)
  2. If you find a quiz you like the sound of & need some warm bodies to make up a team, the easiest way is to use this free group on the social site Meetup: www.meetup.com/Lets-Quiz
     The group is free to join and contains over 200 Irish quizzers. Post an invite and you should have no shortage of ready, willing & able volunteers to come quizzing.

Its a quiz for quiz sake. not fundraising, not charity, not profit.

€40 per table of 4 and entry fees go towards cash prizes for the top 3 teams.
We also have a few unique spot prizes. next week will be a special beatles round compiled by the Dublin Beatles Festival organisers with gig tickets as prizes.

Quiz starts at 8pm sharp. which means get there at 7.30 cause question 1 will be at 8 o clock.

Richardo, this is a regular, fortnightly quiz. At the moment It's not run as a league (we are thinkin about that) but we do have a lot of regular teams coming so it has a good atmosphere and its fairly competitive without being too serious.

If it's fundraising for charity, then definitely not cash.

Contact local businesses, shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. asking them to donate prizes to a worthy cause.

Also see if the venue will donate something, e.g. a round of drinks or a meal, as you are bringing custom to their venue.

Hi Folks

The Lacken Kayaking club is running its annual Table quiz in Zellers Pub, Lacken, Co. Wicklow. It is on Friday 15th Nov 2013 and is starting at 8:30 sharp. Its €10 per head with teams of 4

It is to help fund-raise for the local club. The quiz is good fun and not too serious with spot prizes and raffle on the night.
